Fairytoes or any other GWU student: help

Hi, I'm going to GWU next semester, and I want to come prepared. I took AP french language last year and only got a 3, which is too low for credit at GW. So, I will have to take a placement exam at GW for French. Generally speaking, how hard is the placement exam? cuz I want to be in a French 30 if that's possible.

Is it hard for students to get minors at GW. I'm afraid that I won't have enough time to finish if I start at too low of a level. Thanks.

Also, which colleges offer minors/double majors. I would like a minor in International Business or Econ, but I don't know if that's possible or not. Thanks!

Hoo,
if i were u, i wouldn't stress about the french credits. r u planning to major in french and then minor in business/econ? if so, the 3 on the french placement exam is of hardly any consequence (3 is a passing score anyway, altho u don't get credits transferred for it).
firstly, altho i didn't take the french placement exam, a friend of mine did, and she did well enough to take French 9...French 30 is high to aim for, so i suggest u break out those AP review books and start studying for the placement exam if that's where u want to be. but u do NOT need to be in French 30 as a freshman- in order to graduate from GW, u need 120 credits, so u have PLENTY of time to get to the high level of French that u want. the last thing u should be worrying about is starting at "too low" of a level. keep in mind that people switch majors all the time- practically half the people here have switched majors a mere couple of months into the first semester. so u don't know for sure if u would stick with french anyway.
it is not difficult to get minors at GW- in fact, it's very common. double majors are also prevalent to some extent, i'm planning to double major in two totally unrelated courses of study.
i wouldn't sweat about not having enough time to earn credits toward both a major and minor...and if time really becomes hard to squeeze in later on, u can always take summer courses almost anywhere and transfer the credits in.

* i forgot to add- there's a lot more info on the GW website about courses u need to take for minors. go to gwu.edu, then under Learning click on University Bulletin. under the undergraduate heading, scroll to whatever it is ur interested in.

Cool, thanks FT! I want to minor in French, and to Get a major in International Affairs. I have no problem working my way up at GWU, but I am just slightly worried that I might not have enough time for a minor. On the website, it says that I have to take over a semester's worth of classes above the 30-level, so I don't know if I can possibly cram all that in!! I guess if others get minors in French, I certainly can also.

I am interested in a minor in Human Services or applied ethics, but when I went on the undergrad. bulletin you told me about, it never even has applied ethics(even though it's listed under minors for the CCAS) and it never says the required courses for Human services. Do you know of anyone pursuing these things? thanks.

hi
sorry for the slow response. hmmm i don't know of anyone major/minoring in applied ethics or human services, but whatever available information would be in the book The George Washington University Bulletin. If you got in ED, i'm sure they'll send u a copy by mail.or, if u have a free weekend and live in the northeast, stop by GW and get all the paper materials from the admissions office. they have a ton of info for freshmen which would clear a lot of confusion.
ok- i just looked in my copy of the bulletin, and the reason why u didn't find them on the website is because human services is listed under Sociology. as for applied ethics, i don't think a major/minor is devoted entirely under applied ethics and that it is also grouped under another branch of study as well.
