Faking applications?

Hey guys,

I just found this article

Asians cheat like mad on US college apps | GlobalPost

about Asian students "faking" their way into American colleges.
I was actually rather surprised to find out how far many students and parents would go to gain admission.

Opening this for discussion, do you think the article reflects the actual situation?
If so, what is your opinion on the issue?

Lots of love,

What’s not to believe? Even years and years ago, this kinda stuff was rampant. Just emerging from the shadow of heavy communism, one Chinese HS sent 6 applications to my Ivy alma mater. All showed the students with perfect marks. Funny thing is that there were five distinct “official” transcripts.

Can you imagine what can be done today?

Have you seen the SAT Subject Test Score Distribution for the Chinese Language Subject Test? More than half of the students who take this test score 790-800, with a mean score from all test takers of 760! The numbers are even more skewed for the Korean Language test.

Either there are some brilliant language teachers here in the US who know how to superbly prepare their students for this test or there are a bunch of students in China and Korea who believe they can impress adcoms with their knowledge of their native language.
