still a good deal. Art departments make you pay your own way. I'm in the same boat though, won't know anything until March.

Hey ccmad, I was wondering when you got an interview invitation from Univ Wisc-Madison (Cancer Biology). I too am an international student and I'm still waiting for a response. I was wondering if I should give up.
Thanks!

Pitt - linguistics - master's - accepted

vanes,

i heard from them more than a week ago. their interview weekend is set for 2/22, and others who applied have said that they contacted the program and apparently they are still reviewing the apps.

i actually don't have any full winter clothes, and so i don't know if i would be able to wing madison weather with several layers of sweaters, haha.

eastcoast, wish you luck in your interviews as well. i would be surprised if the remaining chem bio programs don't accept you with your stats.

It's not too bad in Madison, just wear a nice hefty-duty hooded sweatshirt under your jacket and bring a cheap hat/gloves and you shouldn't be too uncomfortable. Also, be prepared to walk on icy sidewalks, so don't wear shoes with little traction. gl!

Hey ccmad,
Thanks for your reply!I called them less than a week ago too and they told me they hadn't even started reviewing applications from international students, which confuses me now. Anyway, good luck and congrats on all your interviews/acceptances!

I'm not sure I get how Berkeley is liberal to the point of being annoying. Sure, if you pass through Sproull plaza, there's always some group screaming something on giant speakers, but it's not like there's giant rallies crowding the campus often or gay marriages in the Campanille.

I've been living around college campuses most of my life, and I really can't see a difference at Berkeley.

FB: i mean more conservative than berkeley, cuz to many people i am still a flaming liberal :)

merper: im fine with protests on sproul. its just the city being liberal nazi. there are more organic supermarkets like andronico's or whole food than safeway, and lines in safeway are always 20 min long because they dont open another cash register. there is no family restaurants (like chili's, TGI fridays) within 20 miles of berkeley. a lot of weirdos hang out at bars. this oak treehugger bs. employees at berkeley public offices are extra slow and always carry an attitude. should i name more?

Tufts Fletcher - International Relations - MALD - Accepted

Oh, that part. Yeah, I can see where you're coming from. I've got to say though, I've been forced to try a whole lot of different ethnic cuisines here, which is kind of nice. But yes, many a night have I pined for a Taco Bell or Wendy's only to be offered a McDonald's. Bleh.

To fulfill your craving for junk food, there is always fat slice, cheap and definitely fattening LOL...

anton1212, was that early admission to Fletcher?

Yeah back in December.

Caltech - Materials Science - PhD - No decision, but they're flying me out.

Hope to see you there, Addwit!

Hey, good to hear! I wonder how many of us there are.

I'm going to caltech also, but its for mechanical engineering. My visit day is the 23rd, when is the mat sci day?

Our visit day is a week before yours. Congrats, and keep us updated with your other results.

Also, does anyone know anything about these visits? Is there anything resembling an interview? My invitation includes the sentence, "Your visit also helps us put together the financial package we offer to those students that we admit" - any idea what that means? I'm just confused by the purpose of this early, pre-decision visit.

caltech matsci day is feb. 16th.

dirt, did your visit day invitation come with an offer of admission?

It sounds like it is the same deal as yours. No mention of being officially admitted yet, but from talking to current grad students, a visit at their expense usually means that you are in. The people I've talked to and everyone they knew that went were all accepted shortly after the visit day.

Addwit, it sounds from that wording like they're perhaps trying to decide who gets the various types of fellowships based on your visit, which I would assume means there will be some sort of interview component. (Maybe there will be a fellowship dodgeball tournament! :D)

For the decisions... my fiance is still waiting on MIT aero/astro (word is that the department will notify in mid- to late February), but he does have an interview offer at an awesome company! We had to go buy a nice shirt and a tie yesterday.
