Fall 07: Final Decisions

For S#1
PhD in Political Science
Choice: Univ. of Chicago
Options: THE Ohio State University, Johns Hopkins
Reason: Stellar academic rep, great city

Masters of Landscape Architecture

Rhode Island School of Design

Options: Cornell University, RISD, Virginia Tech, Auburn, Ball State

Reasoning: I figured if i was going into design, I might as well go to THE design school

I will be attending NYU this fall (fall 2007) to obtain a second master's degree: The Master of Public Health in Global Public Health. This program, which began in 2006, is new at NYU. Only two programs around the world are similar and they are at the University of Oxford (whose master's program in Global Health Science began in 2005) and the University of Sydney in Australia.

Political Science Ph.D.

FINAL CHOICE: Stanford

OPTIONS: Stanford, Yale, UCLA, UCSD, Rochester, OSU

REASONS: Best fit

I want to congratulate you, AppleLinguist. I have a friend who graduated with a PhD in Applied Linguistics at Pitt. He says it's one of the best programs in the country, he was able to start his career right out of school, and he was very happy with his education.

MA International Economics/Latin American Studies (waitlisted for Development Program with Fu.kuyama) / MHS International Health (need to apply for the joint MA/MHS during my first year of MA)

School: SAIS Johns Hopkins
MHS School: Hopkins Bloomberg

Reason: SAIS is the best IR Program right now, great faculty, strategic location, amazing internship options, 1 year abroad in Bologna, Italy
Options: None, applied to SAIS only

Attending: depends on the outside funding, will know for sure in a month or so !

Forgot about this...

MA, History
Choice: Tufts
Options: Boston College, Boston University, UMass-Amherst
Reason: Show[ed] me the money! Hard to get a funded MA, and a funded MA at a place like Tufts is a sweet deal.

MikeU,

You're forgetting Rollins at Emory. Their profs are some of the strongest in the field of global public health. I bet NYU is going to be awesome as well!

Accepted:
Georgetown MSFS (delayed scholarship)
UT Austin LBJ School of Public Affairs (scholarship)

Wait-Listed (declined both immediately to help others):
Tufts Fletcher
Columbia SIPA

Rejected:
Johns Hopkins SAIS
McGill Uni Poli. Sci.

Decided to go to MSFS. Whee!

3.1 GPA BA Latin, 3.0 AA Arabic, US Army linguist, GRE 700V 670Q 6.0W.

Hi everyone, I don't remeber posting my decision so here it goes.

Master of Public Policy at GW. Got a scholarship that covers full tuition. Money was not a key element in my decision, even though I didn't have the funds to afford it. GW was always my first choice, and I am really happy I got admitted and then granted this substantial scholarship. I am an international applicant and it is very difficult to receive such funds. In fact, most schools say academic assistance is extremly limited to international applicants.

Applied also to:
University of Maryland-CP, MPP, admitted. This was also an appealing program for me.
American University, MPP. admitted
Columbia University, MPA. waitlisted

So now I just have to apply for a student visa, hopefully I'll be in DC by August.
