Fall '09 Transfer to UNC Chapel Hill

I was wondering what are your plans for housing at UNC. Anyone looking for housing off-campus at CH?

Ok, this is really freaking me out. I was applying to whatever school that I needed to go to before KF, which I think is College of Arts and Sciences. In my acceptance letter, it states “It gives me great pleasure to offer you admission to the Sophomore class at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in the General College.” Nobody asked me if I wanted to change from College of Arts and Sciences to General College. Did anyone, who intends to go to KF, have the same problem?

Enrolling Transfers: Chat Online with Current Students!
A special committee of the Student Government has put together a new program for enrolling transfer students. Current UNC students will be available online to chat with new students about campus life, academics, and more. The program starts today and will run through the summer. Go online to get your questions answered and meet some of your new fellow students at Carolina! Here is the information from their website with full details and how to log on:

A pilot program for new students begins Friday, May 1st. Student leaders across Carolina will operate an AIM screen-name, UNCTransfers, to answer the questions of newly accepted students about student life, professors, restaurants, childcare, parking, and brick-tripping finesse.

It is staffed 7 days a week:
Sunday through Thursday 1-7 pm
Friday and Saturday 1-5 pm.
Log on and get plugged in!

Anyone receive an official letter describing their residency status yet? In student central I am being classified as a “non-resident” even though I have been living/working in NC for 5 years. It looks like I am going to have to appeal once I get the official letter.

Did anyone hear from fin aid yet?

@mblackm8,

I didn’t apply as a transfer, so I can only answer one of your questions:

3) I’m assuming you have your Onyen log-in. If so, you can find your financial aid reward at UNC’s Student Central: https://s4.its.unc.edu/SISMisc/browser/student_pass_z.jsp

I need some advice. I applied to Carolina this fall and didnt get accepted. My SATS were pretty good, my final score was 1940, and i didnt take the SATS a second time. My GPA was a bit low it was an 2.5. And i plan on getting a 4.0 in an community college. I currently am scheduled for 14 credits in fall and i will increase the credits in the spring semester. So what are my chances at getting into UNC my sophomore year?

I’d say you’d have a much higher shot if you wait and apply as a junior-transfer, pending that you have three stellar semesters at community college. I do not think one year of good grades will make up for four years of average course work, which in reality is way below the average for UNC.

Hey guys, I need some advice as well. I was also denied from Carolina in the Fall due to my GPA dropping from a 3.8 to a 3.4 after AP Calc. I brought it back up to a 3.6 by graduation and was in the top 10% of my 400+ class. I got 4’s on three APs and one 5. Weighted GPA was a 4.5 I believe. Anyway, I’m at UNC Asheville now. I took online classes through UNCG during highschool that should get me 21 credits. My final UNCG GPA was a 3.72. Right now at UNCA, I have 16 credit hours, with 2 sophomore level classes. Obviously, I don’t know what my GPA will be by the time the year is over, but do you think I have a good chance of making it into UNCCH as a transfer for Fall '10?

Thanks,
Mel

Edit: Oh yeah - SAT scores. M: 640 R: 680 W: 710
Total = 2030

Hey guys, I’m also planning on transferring to Carolina for Fall '10. Does anyone have any information about transferring as a student-athlete?

melli,

You should get in!

Ibsprintin, sorry I do not have any information on student athlete transfers. I’d imagine it’s easier than regular admissions, probably like a 2.5-3.0 GPA I’m guessing.

What about me? :)

Stats
4.0 GPA (40 credits by the time I apply, 60 credits overall by the time I transfer)

2.8 hs gpa 1440/2400 SAT

ECS
President of Phi Theta Kappa
President of Psychology Club (future major)
Senator in Student Government
Peer mentoring club (tutors underpriveleged students)

Hooks

URM student
Amazing turnaround

I think you’re in! Write amazing essays to seal the deal and keep up that 4.0

Even with my pitiful SAT scores? :(

I don’t think your SATs will matter with 60 credits?

YUP, they don’t matter. :)

I’m hoping to transfer to Carolina from within the UNC system. I have so far maintained a 4.0 and it is my hope to achieve 3.8-4.0 by the end of the semester. My question is, how important are college extra-cirruculars for transfer students?

I am in the honor’s program at UNCA and I attend two other clubs. Should I step it up a bit?

What are my chances for transfering into unc as a junior in fall 2010?

I go to Davidson County Commity College and will only have a 3.25 gpa when I submit my application but, by the time I get my AA degree this summer it should be much higher (around 3.6) because I will have replaced a couple classes on my degree that I did not do as well in. But my dad is alumni along with several other family members. One of whom is technically on staff in their pharmacy school. I am also first generation college on my mothers side.

I am also the P.I.O on our SGA executive board and I am involved in the Service club, History Club and the International club.

I also volunteer with the Special Olympics once a week as well as work 2 part time jobs and get payed to be a care taker for a kid with Cerebral palsy.

My essays are also pretty strong, and I still have some time to improve them.

My SAT scores were around 1800 as well.

Hey all,

I’m applying to UNC chapel hill as an out of state junior transfer.

HS stats:
gpa: 3.6; came from pretty well respected public high school in MA, took hardest curriculum high school offered
lots of EC’s: xc team, newspaper, NHS, etc

college stats

Sophomore at BU
gpa: 3.55 ish ; double majoring in Bio and International relations so I’ve taken courses all across the board
ec’s: running club, editor on International relations review
SAT’s: CR: 770, Writing: 750 Math: 630

I didn’t apply to UNC-CH out of high school, pretty sure my gpa would have kept me out

So what are my chances?

Thanks!

I’m also looking to transfer for Fall 2010!

HS: 4.1 GPA, highly competitive school, volunteering, work, DECA, in-state
SAT: Math 640, Reading 560, Writing 680; i write essays pretty well :)

College: Freshman in Biomedical Engineering at NC State (its a joint department with UNC btw), very challenging schedule (its engineering…), gpa ~3.4 right now, 30 credit hours this year (28 will transfer), a few clubs and services

How do I stack up?

Hello everyone! I got To North Carolina State University. I am a freshman in biology. I am only taking calculus biology chemistry and some stupid intro class. My gpa is going to be a 3.7 after this semester. I am very involved in community service, i went on alternative fall break, and im in a leadership program.I am also apart of an undergraduate research team.Back in high school i had a 4.2 gpa. president and captain of over 5 organizations and varsity teams. however I laid an egg on the SAT I got 590 math, 520 reading, and 510 writing. What are the chances of me getting in to UNC?
