Fall '09 Transfer to UNC Chapel Hill

Id say your chances are pretty good. The college GPA is a tad low. They put more emphasis on HS only if you are a sophomore transfer. Just try and get that gpa up, but Id say you're in anyways.

I wouldn't go so far as to say that you're "in" but you have a pretty good shot.

I'm also looking to transfer to Carolina. I'm a freshman at the University of Colorado, but I am from NC. I have a 3.65 college GPA so far. (I took astronomy last semester, haha. Bad call.) I do not plan on it falling. At the very least, it may go up like a hundreth of a point, but I'm trying as hard as I can do as good as possible this semester. My high school GPA was ~3.6 unweighted & 4.1 weighted. My SAT was 1270 the old way & 1910 the new way.

And I'd say my essay was pretty good. I'm just looking for some encouragement, haha. I applied last year and I was waitlisted. Sooo I'm just wondering what you guys think my chances are!

you guys are worrying way too much about SAT's, they aren't weighed that heavily for transfers.

yeah guys, general consensus is that SATs are marginal. if you didnt do well, i wouldnt stress it. the time that you would spend on SAT prep could more effectively be spent on your classes.

would anyone mind giving me a chance quickly for soph transfer?
3.5 HS GPA (5 AP classes), 1470/2200 SAT
3.93 at villanova (19 credits, 1 semester of chem major)
villanova's honors program
major ecs: work in pharmacy at home, community service, varsity sport and president of a club in hs

The fact is that for sophomore transfers, SAT's do carry a lot of weight for UNC. (I know this is true first hand). Not as much for junior transfers as they'll mainly look at college gpa, but as a sophomore, they will definately evaluate HS gpa, extracurriculars, and SAT scores.
Both of you need to raise your SAT's. I would re-take them if you're looking to get into UNC-Chapel Hill.

I actually called UNC today, and they said that Junior transfers didn't have to submit SAT scores at all. I don't know how much it will help, but I will still send mine in anyway.

BTW, Do extracurricular activites in HS matter much for Junior transfers?

I found a facebook group we can join and get to know each other.

Hey guys what do you think. I go to Davidson College have a 3.2 here (its a very hard school). Played soccer 4 years in high school, played Division 1 soccer here at Davidson had a 4.8 in a fairly competitive high school top 5% in class with a few extracurriculars. SAT math-690 reading-720 writing- i think like 600

Im afraid my low college GPA will hurt me....any thoughts?

What if you're in-state and got in as a freshman, went to another college and didn't particularly like it but got decently good grades and were involved in a few different activities and applied to transfer for sophomore year? Do they put lots of emphasis on high school grades?

I had a 4.4 in high school and a 3.5 at NC State last year and get waitlisted...so its possible for you but a stretch

is anyone else wishing it was april already?
i'd just like to know o_O

me too. I'm dying here waiting for. But i got into one of my four colleges choice.

can someone also chance me for junior transfer to UNC

sorry to hi-jack the thread but can u guys also chance me

Did anyone do the optional essay for transfer students? I mean they can't hold it against you if you don't do it, right?

i didn't do it...from what I heard its not a big deal..

Thanks! I don't think I will do it either. I was gonna put a cheesy quote in the essay too...lol

i called and they said the average junior transfer gpa was a 3.1 as of last fall. Does anyone know the percentage rate of transfer students? I heard they were not as tough as they are with applicants out of high school.
