I was fortunate enough to be accepted at UCSD this Fall '11. All the hard work paid-off for most of us BUT the process is not final until it's final.

Now that we're IN, I think we should help each other out with the process because this could get really confusing.

I am a CCC transfer from the Bay Area but an immigrant 2.5 years ago and I've never been to San Diego. One of my major concern is accepting my offer without any personal knowledge/experience of the surrounding area and the campus itself.

I was accepted to Sixth College's Biochemistry and Cell Biology program.

Here's a possible things we could talk about.

Are you going to the Admit Day?

How's your financial aid offer?

What do you think about the residential colleges at UCSD?

Questions/Inquiry about what to do after your acceptance.

Housing

Summer Classes

I'll start off!

YES! I asked my dad if we can drive down to San Diego and maybe stay the entire weekend.

I got around $19,000 gift from Pell Grant, Cal Grant, Cal Grant A, and UCSD. Also, I read something about the Blue and Gold scholarship--is this as an automatic scholarship if you're eligible?

I don't really know what to say about the residential colleges. Sixth College was my 2nd choice but after realizing that Sixth is a fairly new college makes me a little doubtful. I kind of prefer the oldest ones because of the "traditions" that was already built, also, all the informations about the colleges are sort of vague and does not give a really concrete basic information. They should create a site where you choose your preferences and all and they a recommended college will show up in the end (just an idea).

I actually have a lot of question for this. I did not follow the IGETC and on the contract, they are asking for an IGETC certification, also on my UC app, I put that I am taking Calc II during the summer session...do I still have to take that on my community college or can I take it during the summer at UCSD?

I applied for housing! The new housing for transfer students looks really nice.

I am thinking of spending my summer at UCSD taking summer classes to get to know the campus well. Do you have any informations on the process?

Hopefully, all the admitted students won't have any trouble for the rest of the application processes.

Goodluck to all and I hope to see you in UCSD for the Fall!

Probably not

I can’t look it up right now, but somewhere north of $20k total.

I’ve taken classes there, and none seem all that much different (other than the course requirements.)

The Village, moving in June 12th

Full time in the summer

Yes i’m going! I live in San Diego so it’s pretty convenient.

Don’t have financial aid.

I got Warren, and it was my first choice. I only picked it because my friend transfered there last year and I basically wanted to follow, yeah its pretty bad but whateves. If i got a chance to change it, it’d be Muir because i hear the reqs are easier.

I just need to talk to a counselor because I’m an undeclared major. I applied as a biochem/cell bio major (jealous to the poster) but didn’t make it to the top bio kids. So I’m wondering how to get into a bio major since its super hard to get into and how to go about it…waah:(

Staying home, lame i know but it is cheaper. I know it’d be nice to stay on campus but hey living at home is free. I’d go away for grad school.

I want to take summer classes! but at my CC but they’re not offering. But i’d like to know more information about summer classes although im doing an internship already at ucsd for a research lab. not sure which lab but im pretty excited

Side note: when i opened my email of my acceptance, i literally cried like a little girl. I was just so happy i bursted into tears.

People please share your reaction hahaha my reaction was basically like nina’s scene in the bathroom calling her mommy when she got swan queen from black swan hahah oh god.

Maybe, I’m from the Bay Area so is it worth going to?

Didn’t receive any

I got into Marshall which was my first choice

None so far

Super nice on campus apartments! I wish I could live in The Village but it’s beyond my budget so I’m going to live off campus apartments

Taking summer courses at my jc

Can’t, I have finals.

18k more or less.

I got into Warren College. I don’t remember how I ranked them, because I did it randomly. I honestly didn’t think I was going to get accepted because I’m transferring from a CSU & my major is impacted.

I’m wondering if I still have to take the writing exam if I completed 2-semesters of English with passing grades. And stuff about transferrable units. Assist.org isn’t much of a help.

The Village. It looks nice, but I’m still worried about the cost.

Going to take classes at a local city college.

When I found out I got accepted I just kind of sat there in disbelief. Haha.

@rachel: wow, I am very curious about the atmosphere down there in San Diego, hopefully the Admit Day would help me. Also, John Muir is my first choice too bec of the few requirements. Hopefully, you’ll get in to BCB!

*My reaction when I received the good news: I was sitting in the library studying for my chemistry midterms and I screamed (mildly), and my classmate right in front of me was surprised. lol. After that I literally just walked around the campus with my hands cold and was not able to review for the midterms…lol. Luckily, I still got an A! haha.

My case was pretty different because I am not really supposed to apply this fall because tons of my prereqs are not fulfilled yet…I was actually rejected by UC Davis. lol

@donvuong28: Congrats, fellow Bay Area resident! Are you gonna miss the Bay Area weather? lol. What is your usual (or planned) means of transportation to UCSD?

Can’t. Close to finals

Under 20K

Sixth, my 4th choice

I honestly don’t know much about Sixth but I heard it pretty easy to finish GE at Sixth than Revelle or ERC.

The Village I think. What do I do for the Housing Application? Do I just click submit or what?

Not sure at the moment.

Can’t I’m way too far away

Didn’t qualify
3.I chose Warren for my 1st choice and got it. I chose it because my dad was in Warren when he went.
4.Nothing really

The Village
6.Nope. My focus after all the work I had to do this semester is to do absolutely nothing this summer haha

@dyepribudoy: Thank you!! Congrats on your acceptance too! I’m not sure if I’ll miss the Bay Area weather too much. If anything, I would expect the weather in San Diego to be even nicer. As far as transportation goes, I’m going to be bringing my car down since I’m going to be living off campus.

Are you going to the Admit Day?
-----Yes!

How’s your financial aid offer?
-----Don’t qualify.

What do you think about the residential colleges at UCSD?
-----I put Muir as 1st. No much reason, just like their logo ;p. I got into Marshall instead, which I don’t mind at all since looks like it’s many people’s 1st choice.

Questions/Inquiry about what to do after your acceptance.
------For those of you who decide to take summer classes at UCSD, when is our registration date gonna be? Also, where are you going to live if you currently live far away?

Housing
-----Just submit the housing contract to reserve a spot, but not sure yet.

Summer Classes
-----I want to attend UCSD this summer if they allow newly admitted transfer students to register for summer classes. Also I’m wondering where I will live.

yes!

dont qualify

i got into sixth and i hear it’s pretty laidback GE wise so i’m happy with that. i don’t even remember what order i ranked them anyway

i was accepted as an undeclared major so i’m just wondering if i should try to get into my first choice of human bio which is impacted, or take the easier route and get into a major which is not impacted such as psych

the village

not taking summer classes

It seems like there’s a lot of Sixth students here! I hope to see on Admit day (now I am not sure if I can make it because I might attend a Stanford Symposium).

Also, I am still lost on what to do from this point. I just submitted by Intent to Register and I don’t know what to do next. Who should we talk to about the provisional contract and summer classes?

I am a little bit worried because they require to finish IGETC, which I will not finish this spring. I’m just lost. lol

1.I want to!!!I’ll see if I can get a ride
2. Under 20K
3. Idk. I got into ERC, my 4th choice, but I am fine with it.
4. No questions on this so far
5. The village!
6. Nope

So I’ve been reading reviews about UCSD lately and from what I read, UCSD is stellar in academics (no question), but how do you guys feel about the lack of school spirit, sports scene, and the overall unexciting “college life” as they would call it? I believed they based their observations on the location of the campus being a place where the majority of the people are on the older side and/or retired fellows. This also made the the living cost a little expensive.

I mean, academics is my top priority but it doesn’t hurt to have an exciting and alive school spirit, right?

I am pretty much set on going and I’m excited to see the campus on Transfer admit day!
