whos finished with their application!!

I would not be one of them... I need to do some serious revising once I get some free time. I'll be overwhelmed with tests all this week!

yep its 5 week testing for us CC students.

how do transfer students 'water down' the Cornell degree. Does a business look at a candidate and go "well, this person did go to Cornell, but that school takes alot of tranfers, so we should look at somebody else." I dont see the logic.

I am an admissions ambassador for the ILR school, and I transfered in to the school as well. For one, every transfer candidate that is offered admission is qualified. Average GPAs range from around 3.6-3.9. We get people that transfer in from other ivies or top-10 LACs. Since Cornell is such a large school, they can afford to have more raw numbers of transfer students. The acceptance rate for transfers is only around 4 or 5% higher than that of freshmen, and I dont hesitate to say that transfers are more qualified for Cornell's academics than freshmen are - transfers know what to expect and how to handle it.

Also, SATs have been shown to correctly predict first-semester academic performance 15% of the time. How can you possibly place so much emphasis on two numbers on a multi-page application?

Needless to say, bball, i encourage you to transfer out of Cornell. Clearly, the average SAT score is not up to your standards, and you're better than that. Transfer students make up an important part of the university - but according to you Cornell shouldn't accept the 3 of every 10 the apply as a transfer. I also find it ironic that you say transfers 'water down' a Cornell degree, yet you want to transfer yourself. So, move on to another school and give your spot to somebody that deserves it - it's idiots like you that really 'water down' a Cornell degree.

YEAH! Give that spot to me!

um at ILR, the transfer rate is like 6-7 out of 10. Arts/Sciences was 16-17 percent for external transfer last year. That is how it should be.

ILR has a guaranteed transfer program and that's reflected. Real acceptance rate w/o the GT is in the mid 20's. The 60% acceptance rate reflects the 9 out of every 10 student that accepts a spot in ILR after spending time at another university. I know this because I have access to these numbers in ILR admissions.

How did you even get into Cornell to begin wih, bball? Aside from whether or not you are accepted anywhere, I'm sure Cornell would love to have you leave.

I knew the numbers were skewed because of GT's. CALS can't have the 54% admit rate for transfers without them. But still, I think I have a shot, with a 3.4 and rising, 4.0 this semester with a third of it over already, and Cornell is my FIRST CHOICE. I don't know, gomestar, you think it's a lost cause? I'm not applying to UPenn for the reason that I don't think I can get in. I love all that Cornell offers, and I am just hoping that I get in. I made the mistake of not applying out of high school. But we all learn from our mistakes. Bball made the mistake of going to Cornell, what he percieves as a mistake, but man, I really want to go there, I just hope I get in as a transfer.

As far as average SAT is concerned, I know what it's like going to schools with low ones, but it doesn't mean the kids aren't smart. I mean for goodness sakes, it's Cornell. And it's where I want to be. I have no doubt. All I can do is fill out an application and write some compelling essays to the best of my ability. I'm neither NY resident nor GT, but I'm going to take a chance on in anyway.

go for it bullseye, it's wonderful here, and totally worth a shot. Dont worry if you dont have a 1550 SAT. Admissions just want to see your scores, they wont make or break you, especially for transfers. Just do well in your current semester and write fantastic essays. I dont think bball will be happy regardless of where he goes.

SATs really dont predict 'overall intelligence' of a school. GPA does. I've seen plenty of idiots and jackasses get 1500's and plenty of hard workers who earn their 4.0 get screwed with 1200's. I'd much rather hang out with the latter group.

EbolaZaire, mcgill and u of t are great schools. good luck!

^ i am at u of t right now, let me just say while many students are brillant, there are more who aren't!!! many people are so lazy, and ruins the studying environment!! playing excessively loud music very arrogant. however, if you enjoy the daily partying scene and love to smell the freshness of cigarrette, i highly recommend u of t!

did anyone go to the UCLA tap conference yesterday?

Is March 1st and May 1st the time we should hear from our schools?

applying to UCLA, USC, UCI, UCSD - in order of decreasing preference [yeah I'd go choose UCI over UCSD; I honestly don't think I'd go to any other school other than UCLA at this point]. Major is general biology with a 3.45+ GPA, 73 completed UC units, w/ TAP and IGETC certification by the end of spring, with volunteer work at a pharmacy combined with a 20hour/week job and a few months of research. I am a General member of Alpha Gamma Sigma honor society and Phi Theta Kappa honor society - hoping to be a board member of PTK, and Christian Club. Awards include dean's honor roll and california state scholar.

I really just want to go to UCLA for my undergrad. I dont know why I'm applying to other schools. Well, better get started on those essays. Applications are so depressing.

Would anyone like to evaluate my chances on UCLA? Im confident that UCSD is a match and UCI is a safety. And I don't care for USC right now.

I believe my personal statements will make me or break me.

Anyone listing any ECs from high school?

kevintech, I feel the same way about my personal statements.

Well well, I'll be applying to American University, St. Mary's College of MD, and possibly other schools but I'm not quite sure yet. I can't believe it's almost time to be applying, this semester went by so fast for me!

They ask for your most recent ECs
