[Fall 2009 application tables](http://www.ucop.edu/news/factsheets/2009/09app.html)

Wow, UCSB had a 5 percent drop in freshman applications after 15 percent gain last year...

Per UCSB; Note the percentage increase in African American applicants 07/08. I remember at least one specific recruiting effort last year. Wonder if it increased the actual number attending.

^^ Don't know the actual enrollment number, but SB got 190 SIRs from AA for Fall 08... a significant bump up from the 93-119 in the ten years before that.

I don't get these statistics, because from what I've gathered, http://www.ucop.edu/news/factsheets/2009/fall_2009_app_table_10_bar_charts.pdf shows that Berkeley's mean SAT score is only in the 1800s, which doesnt make sense.

That is just the average SAT score when you combine all the applicants to Berkeley.

Many good, but not spectacular, students who apply to the mid level UC's with SAT scores around 1600-1700 simply check the box on the UC app for Berekely as well because its no risk-high reward. Because of that, the average seems low.

You have to be aware these are APPLICANTS, most of them will be rejected due to their low or mediocre SAT score.

The distinguishing characteristic of Berkeley and UCLA ADMITS will be high GPAs. That is the single best predictor (though far from the only one).

I have high SAT score and low GPA. I can expect no love from Berkeley, correct?

I'm surprised UCLA gets alot of lower applicants with lower SAT's than Berkeley and SD. Probably because alot of kids from the area will always shoot for UCLA because of its fame in LA.

THIS INFO IS GOOD! UCSB APPLICANTS DOWN 5% YAY.. Tee Hee

thanks for this info!
