I was accepted to the fall 2009 freshman class at USC…to the Roski School of Art. I also received a departmental scholarship. I am now thinking about Architecture. Does anyone know how easy it is to change majors from Art to Architecture? Do you know if I am able to take Architecture courses my freshman year even if I am not in the architecture program, just to see if it is something I am really interested in. Also, how easy is it to get into the Architecture school as a sophomore and could I still graduate in 5 years. Finally, are there departmental scholarships availabe in Architecture to sophmores if I loose my Art Scholarship?

Nikara, War Chant, Lakers or whoever… which do you think is better: having an 8-915am writ 140 and then 2-6pm arch studio or changing it to 1230-145pm writ 140 and then 2-6pm arch studio. The studio can’t be changed that’s the only time, but I wasn’t sure which was better. You guys said 8am is terrible but I feel so would having class basically from 1230-6pm.

Also if I have studio from 2-6pm on mondays (can’t be changed, only time) would I be unable to pledge considering the monday night Greek activites?

Are you a morning person? Do you mind waking up early 3 days a week or however many days WRIT-140 is? Did you factor in lunch/dinner/etc if you make it 12:30-6?

Do you procrastinate? If so, you’ll definitely want the extra time to write your essays.

I would probably personally prefer the 12:30-6 option, but the earlier one could be useful if you would get things done in the break, instead of going back to sleep or messing around. As long as you have a big lunch before class, and bring a snack for in between, you should be okay.

Are incoming freshman supposed to register or plan anything before summer orientation? Or have you all attended it already?

Incoming freshman register at orientation although there is pre-orientation homework on the orientation website.

never take an 8am. you think its fine now, but trust me. just dont do it

I’ve been taking all of my classes until 8:11:50 usually. Just last semester I had a class until 1:50 latest. Yes, waking up early is a pain, but you’re done before noon and have the whole day to do whatever you want. It feels great getting out at 11:50 when most people are just beginning their day.

Which days are best for early classes?

I’ve heard Fridays and Wednesday are no-no’s.

why not wednesdays?

If 8am classes will start feeling early, how are 9am classes? Even though they’re just one hour later.

9 am is manageable, still uncomfortably early some mornings. Friday morning classes are to be avoided if at all possible, Monday too, but Wednesday is a mystery to me.

Friday’s are tricky. You don’t want morning classes, but you don’t want afternoon/evening classes either when everyone else is done. For Fridays, I’d suggest trying to start by 11 if possible so you’re not stuck in class when everyone else is finishing up.

Allright.

And do you guys recommend loading up classes on somedays (probably monday, tuesday, wednesday, and/or earlier thursday), or spreading them evenly throughout the week?

I would spread them across the week and try to keep Friday’s skimpy in terms of the amount of classes you have.

but what about the monday/wednesday/friday classes cause I noticed most of the sciences are like that, well bio and chem and math anyways (yes I know math isn’t a science)

For me, Monday & Wednesday are the majority of my classes. Thursdays, no classes. And Tuesday & Friday are light with classes. Basically 2-3 classes.

does anyone know how to sign up for the LINC program?

What do you mean by “sign up” for the LINC program? You have to apply for it first and then you’ll be assigned to a specific destination. Then they’ll automatically register you for the class. But it’s not until Spring semester, so you have nothing to worry about ATM.

If you’re doing GLP though, that class is in the fall.

@ akalboy, when do the applications come out for LINC?
