You’ll never know what Stanford’s admission commitee factor in for the consideration. Therefore, you can’t really rule out the possibility that they might see potential in your essay or activities. Or maybe, they just like your personality or characteristics.

Whatever the case may be, his GPA will not fit in par with Stanford.

That shouldn’t really stop him from applying, really.

i think Beardy has a good chance at both berkeley and ucla.

my sister got into both schools and she had the exact same stats as you.

That is a RELIEF, thank you

Can anyone give me any insights into what my chances at getting into UC Berkeley or UCLA are?

I have a 4.0 unweighted GPA through a year and a half at a Community College and honors classes were not offered at my CC. I am on track to complete the IGETC this semester, I’m taking my last class for it right now. I will have 65+ semester units upon graduation. I have applied as an Economics major to both schools, and am completing the last prerequisite for that major this semester. I hear that is a difficult major to get into, which makes a bit nervous. I was a National Merit Semifinialist (not Finalist) in high school. My application essays were decent but I feel like I’ve written better.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.

newbalance, you’ve got a shot, just make sure you have the right classes. 4.0 GPA is what I had to transfer, and I was rejected because I didn’t have my communications class done on time. The universities look for small discrepancies first to knock some prospective students out of the way. Just go over the classes that you will have done by the end of this sem. If the match the requirements, then you should have a chance.

I am an Architecture major, and I know that UCB is brutal with transfers into that major. They expect you to restart from scratch to learn their methods.

As usual, i’m one of those people freaking out about my UC results! i can’t wait anymore and there’s still like what, 2 months left till we hear? maybe more.

but if anyone, feedback, please, i’d appreciate it! the torture of waiting!! =/

Applied: ucla, ucb, ucsb and uci
Major: Business econ everywhere
GPA: before update, 3.44 (stated heavy family problems, for the low GPA)
-----Fall 08 GPA: 3.83
-----Update GPA: 3.67

ECs: Working as an intern at the finance and accounting department of my school. 20 hours a week. Assistant coach of a elementary school girls basketball team. Volunteer at the hindu and sikh temple. Dean’s list. Applicant for honors business program at school (results come out in march if I get in or not). etc etc

Essay: I’d say, 8.5-9/10

Problems: Transferred from first tier school(one of top 5 business schools in the country) to third tier due to family problems (mom was in teh hospital for 3 months)

chance me please??? :-D

I think you have some chance at CAL & UCLA but I would say a slight reach with a 3.67.
You should be good to go at all the other schools.

Are you coming from a CCC or an OOS school? You said that you are attending a third tier school…

srjcstud, you can wait and reapply. One of my friends was in a similar situation (changed from Econ to Chem) and he re-applied/got in to Berkeley after turning down their past admission offer.

well i used to be at Purdue University - krannert school, but now im at USF, which is a small private school in san francisco.

I’d say your chances are very low for Berkeley and LA since you’re coming fron USF. Last year, UCLA only accepted 1 person out of the 14 that applied from USF. You have a decent shot at UCSB and UCI though.

[UCLA Undergrad Admissions: Profile of Transfers from CA Non-UC Non-Cmty Coll - 08 Fall](http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/Adm_tr/Tr_Prof08_Calif.htm)

I keep having nightmares of getting rejected so I decided to go on here and ask again about my chances (with an updated grade).

Applied to: [from top choice to bottom] UCLA, Georgetown, CAL, UCSB, UCI, UCD

From: Skyline College/College of San Mateo

Major: Political Science

GPA: 3.74, (3.8 in Fall after taking 9 classes/21 units, 7 UC transferable/19), TAP Certified, done with 41/60 semester units, currently taking 19, only done with 2/4 major prereqs offered (currently taking 1, another was canceled due to budget cuts), attended TAP conference at UCLA in November, will be done with IGETC after this semester

ECs: write for the Skyline View (student newspaper), Co-founder and President of Democrats Club (did various events to raise political awareness by posting up information about CA propositions, held a voter registration drive, volunteered at other events), judge on some weekends at high school debate tournaments, work at a retail clothing store, and Honors Program

chibi_loopi: whoa 9 classes only added up to 21 units? anyway, i think you have a good shot at LA, okay at CAL, in at the rest [except georgetown, i dunno about that one]

i hope so. ive been freaking out about this since ever… lol

JetForcegeminix… i don’t think it matters what school i went to. if they admitted one out of 14 doesn’t mean my chances are bad. for all you know those other 13 might have bad stats so dnt think it matters where u are coming from. matters how you are doing…

i think what jetforce is trying to imply is that because you are coming from a private school, you are going to have a slim chance compared to people from CC’s. UC’s priority are CC students, UC students, CSU, then privates.

but you have a point; just because your school only got one person admitted last year, doesnt mean it’ll be the same again. good luck.

i was trying to show you the disadvantage that coming from a non CCC/CSU/UC puts you at with regards to transfer admissions. The acceptance rate for community college transfer students to UCLA is 38% , the acceptance rate from other california schools is 15%.
