If you’re transferring from a CC I don’t think it matters…

^ Where can I find that information?

if your planning on applying to Berkeley it most certainly does matter

I think there’s no official information about if or how much it matters and the checkboxes for your family’s highest education on the application are optional.

Just from my personal experiences/opinion, I think it only matters significantly if you tie it meaningfully into your essay (which is not even considered by all UCs). It probably matters a bit more for freshman applicants.

Applying: UCB, UCSD
From: MiraCosta
Major: Math/Econ w/ all prereqs completed by Spring 09
GPA: 3.45 (including 4.0 in Spring 08)
EC/Employment: Student newspaper, tutoring, TAP program

Chances anyone?

UCB: Reach
UCSD: Match

Btw, Berkeley doesn’t have a single Math/Econ major but as separate majors.

Can anyone chance me? My stats are on the first page…

@ grey_synatactics

Match at all schools with the exception of Berkeley, which might be a slight reach. I’m not exactly sure how competitive rhetoric is at Berkeley.

does anybody know if it makes any difference, if your parents work for the University of california system? My dad works at UCI in some graduate programs. thanks

Thanks josh. I also haven’t the slightest clue how competitive the Rhetoric program is. Since I’m applying to all other schools as a Philosophy major, I will see about applying to UCB as Philosophy second choice? Is that possible? (apologies if this is a stupid question)

If your question is does Berkeley consider an alternative major, then the answer is no. Btw, I think you have a very good shot at Berkeley grey.

Wow, really? Good to know. Is this only Berkeley or all the UCs?

And thank you. :)

You are transferring from MiraCosta High School?

Applying to: UCSD
From: Consumes River College
Major: Structural Engineering
GPA: 3.50 (currently)
Interests: Playing my acoustic guitar, videogames, tech-junkie, working out, chillin’, cooking.

I hope to work with architects on structural designs/plans. Architects make structures look good while we the engineers make them WORK.

grey, it might be encouraging for you to hear that Berkeley accepts students by department, not by major. Both rhetoric and philosophy fall under the Arts & Humanities which had the highest admit rate last year at 46%. I think you have a great shot at Berkeley.

Here we go again

Applying to: UCB/UCLA/UCSD
From: Fullerton College
Major: Psychology
GPA: 3.7
Interests: Weed and sex

Extra: TAP, Honors Clubs, Hairy

^ haha, nice.

josh: thanks again! What are your stats?

gahhhhh berkeley’s 2008 transfer stats are up. less than 25% of those attending have less than a 3.69

i’m gonna have a 3.63

:(

2,966 people admitted to Berkeley from California and only 1,812 enrolled. I found that pretty shocking.

Can someone please post link to Berkeley’s 2008 stats? Thanks
