Fall 2009 UC Transfers

@joshbk

Berkeley is not the alpha and the omega. Quite a few of us can’t stand hippies, and as such, wouldn’t want to attend.

You are generalizing the #1 public school in the U.S.

I’d do the same to the #1 private school in the U.S. as well.

why are we posting stats already, fall quarter isn’t done yet!

From: Glendale Community College
To: UCSD, UCLA, or probably UCB, but they don’t have the major I want.
GPA: 3.74
What’s different about me: international student; started college when I was 16
Interests: violin and piano, volunteer, parties
someone rate me?
What I hate about me: I don’t have previous work experience mainly because I’m young and I don’t have any previous jobs.

Applying to: UCB/UCLA/UCSD, maybe some private schools for the hell of it
From: Ventura College
Major: Nuclear Engineering for UCB, Bioengineering for UCLA and UCSD
GPA: 4.0
Interests: Modern Physics, higher dimensional geometry and mathematics, nanotechnology, human physiology, video games, reading, skepticism, instrumental music
ECs: took 1st for my school in the student math league, tutored chemistry at my CC, worked as a student intern under civil engineers
Career Plans: At the moment, my career hopes point towards CERN or Fermi lab, but I would like to help research nuclear fusion and nuclear waste disposal

All this Berkeley talk is making me nervous, I really hope I get in =</p>

…you have the highest GPA possible. there isnt anything to “hope” for. you basically got in.

Applying to: UCLA*primary…REALLY want to go here, Columbia-School of General Studies, Berkeley, NYU, CSU LB/Fullerton/LA
From: a CCC
Major: BizEcon, Economics, Business, Business, w/e, respectively
GPA: 3.93
Interests: Quitting WoW, back into D2 while waiting for D3…
ECs: Full time job.

grey – rhetoric at Berkeley is not even close to being impacted, meaning that it is not competitive to be accepted into that major.

from what i heard about the rhetoric major is that they have some of the MOST (possibly the most? who knows) reading at Cal. More than philosophy at UCLA, if that gives you a good idea.

I’m a phil major at UCLA, from what I can tell you, it’s all riding on the GPA. Just make sure your GPA doesn’t slip below 3.7, if you want to sleep well at night for Berkeley.

You’re pretty much set for UCLA, UCSB and UCSD. So rest easy, at least you’re going to a great school in fall 2009.

josh – i got into berkeley, but i declined. I go where my dreams lead me and they lead me right into Bruin Territory. =D

i guess i’ll enter this discussion.

Applying to: [from top choice to bottom] UCLA, Georgetown, Cornell, Columbia, John Hopkins, UC Berkeley, NYU, UCSD, UCSB, UCI, UCD

From: Skyline College/College of San Mateo

Major: Political Science

GPA: 3.7 (currently), should have at least 3.8-3.9 by end of semester, 21.999/60 units done, taking 19 units in Fall and Spring, will be TAP Certified by end of Fall, will be done with Major Prereqs and IGETC by end of Spring, chosen to attend TAP conference at UCLA in November

Interests: Sports (UCLA Football and Basketball, Golden State Warriors, SF 49ers, and SF Giants), Politics (Obama '08), Journalism, and Music (Underground Hip Hop/Rap, Indie, Alternative, Acoustic, and a little bit of mainstream)

ECs: write for the Skyline View (student newspaper), volunteering for DNC, judge on some weekends at high school debate tournaments, work (interviewed last week, hopefully i got it), Honors Program (both Skyline Honors Transfer Program and Phi Theta Kappa), and in the spring - will be coaching old high school’s badminton team

Activities: I love to: play sports (golf, football, badminton, tennis, basketball), chill with friends (too bad all of them are leaving for college), watch ESPN (a whole lot of it) and MSNBC, debate (even though I’m not in high school anymore), and go to the beach

quick question: Will I get rejected if I didn’t complete all of my prereqs by the time they evaluate my application? I just graduated from high school and this is my first year but i still completed 1/4 in the summer and am currently enrolled in another. My community college district fluctuates in when they offer major prereqs with this year having 2/4 of them in the spring.

Applying to: UCLA/ Berkeley number 1 choices, will apply to other UC’s
From: Moorpark College
Major: Sociology
GPA: 3.77, should be at least 3.8 after this Fall
Interests: Reading, law, sociology, sports
ECs: Working part time at a law office for 1 year, community service monthly, playing softball, tutoring
Career Plans: Go to UCLA as a Sociology major and go on to Law school after obtaining my Bachelors

Anyone who posts with a 3.99999 or higher does not really need an answer to their chance of getting in.

Anyone who was rejected with 4.0 please post here…because some people on this board believe a 4.0 is the single criterion for acceptance.

The more posts of stats the better, even those great 4.0s!

when 4.0s get rejected, its usually because they didnt complete prereqs

yah *usually…

Are you saying you’re "guaranteed"into Cal or LA with a 4.0 and completed prereqs?

Thanks newyear.

Hey, I don’t think it’s the only criterion for getting in. I’d just like to know if I can get away with it! heh

you’re obviously not guaranteed. but you’re probably about 5-10 times likelier to get in then someone with a 3.8 with the same classes

…and a person with a 3.8 has about a 5-10 times likelier chance of getting in over other people lower. so you do the math.

so i guess the answer to my question of : “Will I get rejected if I didn’t complete all of my prereqs by the time they evaluate my application? I just graduated from high school and this is my first year but i still completed 1/4 in the summer and am currently enrolled in another. My community college district fluctuates in when they offer major prereqs with this year having 2/4 of them in the spring.”

…is yes?
