Haha… Go Fall '09 Transfers!!

Oh god what is this hivemind. I created my account and started putting some basic information yesterday too. Working on a rough draft of my essay as wel speak.

…yeah, I really want to avoid that last-minute rush.

Yeah I really need to start mine too… such a terrible thing to procrastinate on!
If anyone here is applying to UCSD, what order did you use for the colleges and why? My top choice is Warren, and the next two were Muir and Marshall. Not many or no additional GEs were my rationale. :p

yea I just went by what names I liked the best

haha, be careful. I know that for instance, Roosevelt college requires incoming transfer juniors to complete an additional sequence of GEs before graduating. That can set you back quite a bit.

so does revelle. best choices are probably warren and muir

ECs : Quite strong I guess, three leadership positions in clubs, tutor, intern, volunteer, etc. Too long to be listed here, not gonna bore you guys.

Interests : Tennis & Movies

Background : International student. This is what worries me the most. Being an international student provides me with a nice hook for essays / personal statements, but I think it’s kind of a disadvantage for admission process? Someone please enlighten me on this D:

Career plan: M.B.A & M.F.E

I just screwed up my SAT essay too D: Chance me if you can. Thanks :D

I have heard from a few people that they feel disadvantaged being an international student. I don’t quite understand that. If I were a university and I saw someone with your stats willing to pay those international student fees I’d take you in an instant. I hope that doesn’t come across crass, but I hope you can understand where I’m coming from. I think you have great chances. Your application will obviously be stellar with that GPA and ECs!

I think it’s just that international students don’t get prioritized over local students. I think it’s a policy?

Being an international is a disadvantage, because they are put at the bottom of the list. However, I don’t think you really need to worry with your stats (except for maybe Haas).

Even with TAP?

Thanks for the input everyone :D

I thought that international students were not allowed to do TAP?

In my college, they’re allowed to. I already finished my certification and am waiting for the Fall grades.

Never a bore, I’m actually really interested to see what else you have, if you don’t mind of course.

Gotcha. Well then I’d say you’re a very competitive applicant. Good luck.

I mentioned the common ones. The rest are not really that impressive:
- Writing on a school newsletter
- Currently making a film for an Astronomy independent project (amateur)
- Going to present on a research conference in UCI next February
- Assistant coach in tennis last last summer (in my country)
- In the LA Marathon 2009 team for my church and some other minor stuffs.

Thanks, you too.

^ Very nice! Good luck to you and Haas!
