Fall 2009 UC Transfers

Woohoo IVC…!

Anyways, I was going to post about how I’m entering this thread late, but then I read the first page and realized I had already posted here. =0

Anyways, my stats are pretty much still the same, except now I’m considering BizEcon at UCSB as a third choice, just because my second choice of UCLA BizEcon is supposedly outside the realm of TAP confidence. =/

Applying to: Cal, UCLA, UCSD, UCI
From: Mt. SAC
Major: Cal and UCI: Chemistry; UCSD and UCLA: Biochemistry
GPA: 3.76

I’m thinking about applying to UCLA as a poli sci major this fall. I am at a community college in San Diego with a 4.0 but no honors classes. Do I have a good shot? I looked on the UCLA website for transfer information and I have above the median transfer gpa of about 3.6, but I’ve heard political science is a very competitive major at UCLA so thats why I’m posting this question.

Notice on the PoliSci stats area on the UCLA website that the average applicant had a 3.3 GPA. That’s why it’s so competitive - because so many people had to have had less than a 3.3 in order to bring the average down that low. You’re a strong applicant if you maintain that 4.0.

If you have a 4.0, just finish all of your prerequisites and you’re in for sure – don’t even sweat it.

“i have a 4.0 can anyone chance me?”

From: SMC
To: UCB, UCLA, UCI, UCSD, UCR, UCI,UCSB, USC
GPA: 3.70 Transferable
Major: Biochem for all
Interests: Watching and Playing Soccer games (Love both FIFA and PES) , Chemistry (My most favorite subject), Exercising…+sleeping(even though I hardly had enough of them during the past)
Pre-req: will have 1 (Multivariable Cal left before entrance)
All Igetc(by winter) + Other pre-req will be completed by spring…

^ Khan1988, rest assured, you are a strong candidate for all those schools. However, I feel that you are applying to way too many schools. With your GPA you can scratch off UCR and UCSB easily.

That way, you’ll save both money and time.

Yeah, I’d say UCI and UCSD are more of your safety schools.

From: Santa Monica College
Applying to: UCLA, UC Berkeley, USC
Backups: UCSD, UCSB, UCSC, UCI
Major: Business/Business Econ/Econ
GPA: 3.93 now
Units completed: 40
Units in progress: 15 + 5 (dropped)
Units planned in winter: 5, Math 7 (Calculus I)
Units planned in Spring: 3, Math 52 (Statistics for Berkeley); 3, 1 physical science course; 5, Math 8 (Calculus II); 3, Eng 31 (English course for Berkeley)
Courses taking now: Accounting 2, History 1, Biology 3, Eng 30A, Just dropped Math 7 so I got a W
Completed Major requirements: ENG 1, ENG 2, ECON 1, ECON 2, ACCTG 1

I am calculating that I would have a 3.94 GPA by the end of Fall. I’m just missing my Math requirements.

I’ve basically finished all my major requirements except Math, which is pretty important but I plan to ACE it in Winter. I have 3 W’s so I’m mostly worried about that.

Extra Curricular: Scholars Program certified; Transfer Alliance Program with UCLA; Alpha Gamma Sigma Honor Society/Club for Fall 07, Spring 08, Fall 08, board member of Fall 08; Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society/Club for Spring 08, Fall 08, Associated Students Student Affairs Committee, Spring 08; Grade Appeals Council, Spring 08; in progress for President’s Award for volunteer service (100 hours); Red Cross Club, Fall 08; UNICEF Club, Fall 07, Spring 08; Electronic Music Club, Fall 08; Feminist Alliance, Fall 08; Internship at a Jewelry Company, Summer 08

How come all of the majors for both UCLA and Cal are “unavailable” for transfers for the fall '09 quarter? except for music.

From: UC Riverside
To: UCB, UCLA, UCD, UCI, UCSD, UCSB, USC
GPA: 3.2
Major: Political Science
Goal: REALLY interested in getting out of Riverside and into either Berkeley or UCLA

Hey everyone,

I’m really new to this so excuse me if i seem kinda clueless. I was wondering if anyone had any idea on what prereqs i still need to complete in order to transfer out of riverside smoothly. I just started my second year and i still need 2 lit/phil/rlst courses, 2 additional natural sciences and up to the fourth quarter of foreign language.

Also, I took a class (Philosophy) at PCC this past summer and i got a C-. i only got one C during my first quarter and it was a C+, but now this C- makes me think ill have NO CHANCE in getting into Berkeley if i report it. Do you guys have any ideas on what i should do? Should i NOT report it and retake the class next quarter and act like that summer never happened? Or should i be honest and report that nasty grade. Thanks again everyone!

They’ll find out if you don’t report it, and it could cost you your acceptance.

See what I mean about people trying to outright lie on their apps, grey?

You should report the grade. Berkeley doesn’t recommend students to retake a class for a better grade, they will always consider the first attempt in the admissions decision. Attempting to “hide” the grade WILL affect your admissions process.

yeah I see…

If you hide the grade, it is considered fraudulent and they will not only cancel your app, but ban you from future admissions. Yes, one of my friends failed to report another school and was banned forever.

From: SBCC
To: UCI UCR SJSU
Major: Art History
GPA 3.7
Interests: working out, heavy metal, food, beer.
I would apply to other schools as well, but these are the only ones I can find that will let me get up to 60 units during summer 09.

Applying for senior transfer? uh, I don’t think they take senior transfers.
