Fall 2010 Admissions

Has anyone been accepted into UMD College Park for Fall 2011 (sorry, not 2010) yet? When do they start notifying? Is notification done via mail??

If you applied by the Nov. 1 deadline, then you will hear from them in late January. UMD does not have rolling admissions, so do not expect to hear from them before late January.

I’ve been checking my d’s status online a couple of times a week, and I guess I’ve been wasting my time. The site says “…you will receive an admission decision in late Jan. No decisions for fall 2011 have been released yet.”. so I guess I can give it a rest for at least a few days…

Does your message say this or something else?

"We are unable to offer you a decision on your application at this time. You will be contacted as soon as the decision process is complete.

Thank you for your interest in the University of Maryland."

I’m curious to if we have different notification messages

(thats what i get when i go to the ‘check your admissions decision online’ link)

Exactly the same!

Hey. I was reading this thread and I agree with the both of you… Have received both messages from UMD regarding them not reaching a decision yet… The “Fall 2011 Decisions have not been sent out yet” is on the “Admitted” site, while the “We are unable to give you a decision at this time” is connected to the “Check Admissions Decisions” link… Does anyone know when they’re sending decisions? I heard it was today from someone, and then another person told me we will find out by Feb. 1st…

PS what programs are you all applying for at UMD?

surprised me! im glad i just learned umd isnt rolling admission…

End of January. The very end of January. Maybe even Jan. 31, since that’s a weekday.

On another thread they said that the admissions counselor said the 29th is when they will be released. apparently we get an email.

D applied for architecture…so actually I’m not so optimistic as g.p.a is a little low… Though sat’s are sort of high for UMD.

dont count your chickens before they’ve hatched is all i have to say

Yes, I also heard Jan. 29 in one forum for prospective students. I’d certainly prefer 1/29 to 1/31, but I won’t believe it until I see it.

I think last year it was on the 30th so hopefully it will be then or maybe a little before. Goodluck to everyone applying I’m sure they have already made a decision for most of us by now.

I’m sure they’ve made most of the decisions but I heard they make us wait to bring in more out of state students because that’s where the cash is. That really irks my nerves. Not only because the wait is annoying, but the majority of us instate students get screwed over because of cash…

djohnson, on the other hand, my experience, my sibling and my friend’s, all of us OOS, we ended up getting accepted for the spring, because they really prioritize in state first, they really do

If you’re in-state you have an advantage over out-of-state. That’s a definite.

I am also OOS and I have been told it will be harder to get in and harder to get merit scholarships

This is true, the reason why In state tuition is cheaper is because the school gets tax cuts for the ones who pay taxes in MD. Out of state students are more expensive because they dont pay MD taxes, and therefore don’t get that tax discount. In state students ARE prioritized.

Oh nice! I want to major in Biology with a Pre-Dental focus and a Neuroscience minor… I’m interested in University Honors because I like the seminars they offer… January 29-31st? Hmmm… Sounds like it could be right… I’m going to check today however. I think it’s sometime next week. I wish they would send decisions already… I already got accepted at Vermont and Loyola, but UMD is my first choice. And I also applied to American (and I applied early action to all of my schools), but they have not gotten back to me yet… But my first priority is UMD. I heard that UMD mailed decisions out yesterday, so I’ll be checking the mail today and this weekend as well. I’m honestly not that stressed about it, it’s just that I’d like to find out soon, you know? But I just keep telling myself not to think about it, and that I’ll get the letter soon enough. No worries.

Just go this in an email today from admission counselor:

We are looking forward to releasing decisions by the end of the month, so you’ll be hearing from us very soon. As a reminder, we do release online first, and typically send out a notification email when decisions become available on the website. I would advise that you check your email around the 29th or 30th!
