Fall 2010 Econ 1 Summer Homework

From this thread: <a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-california-berkeley/926084-econ-1-brad-delong.html%5B/url%5D">http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-california-berkeley/926084-econ-1-brad-delong.html</a></p>

It appears that Professor DeLong is assigning summer homework for the Fall 2010 Econ 1 class. I'm an incoming freshman currently enrolled in that class, but I never received any sort of notification of this summer work. Am I expected to do it? What exactly is the homework?

That thread has the homework on it and a link to his blog. I’ll post the link up here for you. It should provide enough information.

[Preparing for Econ 1 - Grasping Reality with Both Hands](<a href=“Grasping Reality on TypePad, by Brad DeLong”>Preparing for Econ 1)

Thanks, I know what the homework is, but do you have any idea if incoming freshman are expected to complete the assignment? On the thread, there is a mention of a quiz. What will we freshmen do with that?

I’d contact Professor DeLong himself to truly know what one is expected to do. Honestly, you’re at Cal. You know about the assignment. I’d do it and prepare for the quiz. However, since you want to know, contact the professor.

Definitely agree with collegebound111.
And from the link to the other CC discussion, I’m pretty sure that DeLong expects incoming freshmen to complete the work and take the quiz too. (“Rising first-years will learn as they get into the class” - DeLong)
I guess he might send out another email later on?

I’m not asking to find out if I can get out of the assignment because sooner or later I will have to do it. I’m simply surprised/confused/bewildered that a professor would assign summer homework and not notify everyone in his class about it. Since Econ 1 is a fairly popular freshman class, you would expect advisors to know about summer work.

But thanks for your advice. I will email Professor Delong.

Eh, who knows. According to some thread on here (possibly the one you posted, but I wouldn’t know since I read an unhealthy amount of CC threads) said DeLong usually teaches upper division. So I mean it could be he expects more even though he’s teaching a lower division class. I have no idea haha. I’d just go with it.

I literally JUST signed up for Econ 1 because I missed CalSo. I am thinking about dropping it for other courses but just in case, is Professor Delong the only Econ 1 teacher? My telebears schedule doesn’t seem to list the name of the professor.
