Fall 2010 New Students

Son will be heading south to UA to major in Business this fall.

Son is freshman majoring in electrical engineering.

Son, who I always said had rocks in his head, will be a freshman majoring in GEOLOGY/Chemistry! Daughter is a junior double finance/economics major. Both native Texans currently from the great state of North Carolina!

My CA son is a bio major…i just found out his roommates are from Texas, Illinois and Alabama…It should be very interesting in their suite

bassettmomma - wow how nice to have the diversity. S is hoping for a similar situation. He’s still waiting for response from his roommates, e-mailed hello some time ago. Wondering if they’re freshman?

socal, the housing assignment and roommate information has been mailed and e-mailed and lists the e-mails and home phone numbers of his roommates. Using the area code, you can get a relative idea of where his roommates are from.

I’m glad that so many talented people will be attending UA this August. Roll Tide!

Hm, bassetmomma, that’s cool. My roommates are all from Alabama (two freshmen, one sophomore - the sophomore and one of the freshmen are really good friends). While I’ll be the only out of state one, I’ve been talking to them on facebook and they seem really nice, though, so that’s good!

How I found out about where my son’s roommates were from was from the paper that was sent from housing. I plugged in the numbers to my cell and it tells me which state the number is in. I know the Texan is a freshman (facebook) not sure about the other two yet.

i Thought that Ridgecrest was supposed to be all Freshman. Am I wrong about that?

I think that a plurality of kids in Ridgecrest are freshman, but not everyone is.

I can tell you that Ridgecrest West will have several sophomores in residence, including my son and his girlfriend. My son is from Virginia – all his roommates live in Alabama. His girlfriend is from Texas. One of her roommates also hails from Texas, while the other two are from Alabama. Several Ridgecrest West residents are in the CBH program.

Oh, if I’m correct, Sea _Tide also lives there.

Makes it easy to round up everyone for that midnight IHOP run.

my son is ridgecrest south north. I know at least one of his roommates is a freshman, so that is fine with us. I thought I read somewhere that ridgecrest south north was for incoming honors students. So, I guess I thought it was all freshman…But whatever he gets will be fine.

i think ridgecrest south has freshman and sophomores, but i am not sure. there are some LLCs there, so i don’t know if those include all levels or not. only floors 1 - 3 of the north wing are designated honors floors. so, in truth, MOST of ridgecrest south is non-honors.

He is on third floor. So, that means he should be with honors kids. I didn’t know about the 1-3 floors but think he will be happy to know that it is mostly non-honors…If you remember he didn’t want to be in honors dorms at all to start with because he said he wanted to meet all different types of kids.

He was originally in Burke but he switched because I told him he could always switch out of honors dorms, but you can’t get in if you don’t start there. This seems like a great compromise. He still gets the honors designation if he wants to live in honors housing but will not be with all honors in Ridgecrest South.

According to the housing website South North is Honors and South South is LLCs It doesn’t say anything about certain floors of South North. I guess it is lucky for us that we got third floor. I would be upset if we were on the fourth floor and it wasn’t considered honors since this was the main reason for our selection.

BTW My husband stayed in Ridgecrest South during Bama bound and he loved it. I hope my son does too!

i am positive that only 1 - 3 in north are honors.

yes, it says all of north is honors, but according to a real person in charge, that is not the case.

Mike- I believe you! You guys on CC always have great information. Like I said, works for us. He is on third floor. My son will be happy he wants variety. I wanted him rooming with honors for study purposes and designation of honors housing to keep all options open.

thanks for the heads up on the letter. I hadn’t looked at it too closely and didn’t notice the home phone numbers. Guess he’ll have variety - CA, Penn, TX and AL. Anyone know if Riverside West is mixed class levels? 3rd Flr Honors.

Riverside West is all honors. But again, if there were spaces open in the honors community, non-honors students could move into them. My son had three suite mates. One was non-honors – a nice kid and good student, too.

As for mixing class levels, if a student decided to recontract for his/her room last school year, there could be a number of different classes on that same floor.
