Fall 2010 parent weekend

I know this is a bit early, but does anyone know when parent weekend will be this fall? Also, where do you recommend staying near campus?

We’ve generally stayed at the Holiday Inn in Georgetown. If you book now you should get a good rate. We asked for both the AAA rate and the American University rate…sometimes one is substantially cheaper than the other. There is a free shuttle that the Holiday Inn runs to and from the AU campus…it stops at the Anderson/Letts/Centennial dorms where our son lives so very very convenient.

I’ve stayed at two places, the Marriott near the zoo (Wardman Park), and the Hilton on Connecticut Ave. Both are an easy drive (under 2 miles away) but you do need a car (or I suppose you could call a cab or do like my husband did and walk if you are into walking.) The Marriott is a huge, huge complex, multiple towers, very upscale and nice. (We once got a great deal there). Hilton isn’t as upscale but still nice.

For other reasons, I have stayed at the Residence Inn in downtown and that was very comfortable, with breakfast included. I also have stayed at the Hyatt in Bethesda, which is right on top of the Metro.

The Embassy Suites at the Chevy Chase Pavilion is a twelve-ish minute car/taxi ride from AU and is located right at the Friendship Heights Metro station (one stop away from the Tenleytown stop, from which you take the AU shuttle bus to two choices of stops on campus). It is not as expensive as many more centrally located hotels, is very nice, has a substantial breakfast buffet included in the room rate, and you get an extra room as part of the “suite” arrangement. Good shopping, decent eating and a movie theater are right there.

Thanks for all your suggestions. I will check out these hotels. Does anyone know the date for parent weekend yet? I tried to find it on the website. Thnaks!

They may not have made the final decision yet, but it was in Oct last year.
