I'll be a junior in fall 2010 and have decided to pursue my studies abroad for a semester or (maybe) a year. I'm a spanish major with minors in international relations and urban studies. At my home university, both my minors are interdisciplinary, so I'm flexible with course loads in those as long as they're related. I'd need to be working on senior level course work in Spanish at the host university. I'd prefer to study in Spain, Lima, Buenos Aires or Mexico City.

Anybody have recommendations about

1) Spanish Cities to study abroad in and why; and

2) Which programs are best? I've looked through ISEP but haven't really research any others yet.

Many thanks for any advice or help you can give to somebody just starting this process!

You might try API-Academic Programs International. 8 years ago my S studied at Complutense in Madrid through them, and in January my D will be in Madrid at Antonio de Nebrija studying Spanish Language and Culture and some International Business. They have several programs throughout Spain. She is in the UK this semester.

There are also programs through CIEE and Butler University and Arcadia. You are wise to look now. Visa can take a long time.

I am also going to study abroad in the fall of '10. I am either going to go to Buenos Aires, Argentina (I really want to go there) or Guayaquil, Ecuador. I’m going through SUNY New Paltz (since I go to a SUNY school it’s pretty cheap). Check out their programs https://studioabroad.newpaltz.edu

Buenos Aires is like Europe except in Latin America. Everyone is white (Italian/Spanish/German) (may sound racist but if you’re white you won’t look like a gringo/tourist there). There is pizza and italian food everywhere. It is also one of the safest cities in Latin America.

Guayaquil is a lot poorer and more dangerous, however it is full of culture. You can live pretty cheap and have delicious food, beaches, mountains and everything.

I went to Sevilla, Spain for the Fall semester with CEA and had a great time. My girlfriend and a bunch of our friends studied in Buenos Aires with Butler.
