<p>@33dmjjm: my guess is that the overqualified applicants did not spend as much time as they should have on their essays as they were confident that they would be accepted. applicants with lower stats, on the other hand, would undoubtedly spend more time writing and revising their essays. so yes, i guess the whole “safety” attitude comes into play.</p>

<p>and is it just me, or does it seem like more people got rejected by UCSD than UCLA this year? at my school, barely anyone got in. and most people who got in also got into UCLA. i got rejected by UCLA. but some people who were rejected by SD have insanely high stats.</p>
