Fall 2011 Admission Decisions

Can anyone please give me a contact from GS that is in bio-premed??? Also, anyone that has experience with having a child in daycare will be helpful… Please, if anyone can help me these will be the deciding factors for me and my family…

anyone here had a phone interview this week and got a call back from GS yet??

Macho, do you want to contact a premed student? I’m afraid that none of the premeds I know are in GS. But, call the Dean of Students Office and try to make a phone appointment with the pre-health advisor. They’ll be able to answer a lot of your questions. But, I have to warn you, final exams are upon us and it may be difficult to get a premed student to talk to you this or next week.

Daycare is wildly expensive in New York, Macho. In a lot of cases it seems to be that pre-school tuition is close to Columbia’s. I don’t know how people do it, but, if you’re going to figure it out I’d suggest you get to work ASAP.

Welp, I got an Email Today. I feel somewhat better since they need my final grades to make a decision, in which I have a 4.0 so far :D. I was scared when I read the first paragraph, but I read further. What do you guys think? Do I still have a shot?

Heres the Email:

Thank you for your interest in the School of General Studies of Columbia University . Your fall 2011 application for Early Action remains incomplete. As a result, we cannot offer you an admission decision by May 1, 2011.

We encourage you to remain an active applicant and to submit the outstanding materials necessary to complete your application by our Regular Decision Deadline of June 1, 2011. In order for the Admissions Committee to make a decision on your application, you will need to submit the following items:

Final Spring 2011 grades from “X”

Please note, if you are currently enrolled at a college or university and the grades are requested above, this means the committee will need your grades for the current semester in order to make an admission decision. Please send a transcript to the office of admission as soon as current grades are available.

just got my acceptance package via fedex, no email, no call, had a phone interview on tuesday, will post more details later as I am at work.

Congrats Usd!!! It’s been a great week!

That email sounds very, very promising Random!

Congrats random! Does anybody here that got accepted had the same situation as random in regards of pending classes?

Congrats Random & usdddd!!
(if you have a 4.0 you are definitely in!)
O my goodness everyone in this forum is getting an acceptance!!
bring the confetti and the system! there’s going to be a party up in here!! wooo hoo!
two more of our kind just crossed over to the realm of the Ivy League world!! :D

GOT MY CALL AT 11:38AM PST

I GOT IN! No additional e-mail, no pending grades!

OMG!!! I CAN SLEEP NOW!!! AHHHH!!!

Congrats to all accepted. Good Luck to all waiting.

The amazing week continues!!! Go Ckinglam!!! Congrats!

CONGRATSS! Ckinglam Now that’s the way to end the month!
Clap clap claps for Ckinglam -well deserved

@ Ckinglam, Random, Usd - are you guys able to log in the financial aid site?

To the rest, there is still hope! There is 1:30 left before the window for calls closes for the month!
Cross fingers !! lol

Congratulations to those of you who go accepted.

If one doesn’t receive a phone call today–does it mean rejection?

I wouldn’t automatically assume that, Dreamchild. In fact, if I were you, I wouldn’t count myself out until I had a letter in my hand telling me that I wasn’t being offered admission.

You’re still in the game.

No Dreamchild – I am almost certain that both rejections and acceptances are going out on May 1st.
I don’t think they call everyone who applies, so those who did not get the call, and those applications that were still being reviewed in the last week will most likely get a response after May 1st. Don’t get me wrong, my hopes are starting to wither too, pondering on why my decision has not been made, and if the lack of feedback is because I didn’t get in. However, we must not give up, I am sure that some people have been accepted after May 1st.
The real question is : have any rejections gone out this month, unfortunately, there is no one here to confirm that. So don’t give up and just hope for the best outcome next week :)

Everyone that hasn’t heard: are you sure your applications are complete?

As far as me, yes, my app is complete, triple checked with admissions during the submission process. The only thing is that my last transcript is pending/provisional since I’m taking classes now, but that doesn’t seem to be an impediment for acceptance, since other students who are also enrolled in their spring semester have already received an acceptance.
I hope GS doesnt forget about me :frowning: (i’m hereeee!!! waitinnng!!)

Thanks for the kind words James, Broh, and invict

Invictvs - I am not able to log into the financial aid site. Makes sense since they still need my final transcript.

I am a little confused by the email. Does this mean they looked at my application and thought that in order to make a final decision, that they need my grades?

OR, they are refusing to even look at my application until I have my final grades?

Thoughts?

they must have looked at your application to determine that you needed to send your spring grades i’m guessing

I hope they looked at my app. I would be ****ed if they wont even look at it until they see my spring grades.

I wrote in my app that I wanted to major in Statistics and Financial Econ really badly, So I am guessing they want to see my Calc-III grades to see if I am worthy.

Thanks for your words of encouragement, I am still holding on!

And yes, my application is complete. When I called two weeks ago they said my application is under review.
