You select the dorm and the room you want. For my son, the dorm sealed it.

You should have your scholarship info from Bama within a few weeks.

If I remember your stats, you’ll get full tuition from Bama and 2/3 tuition from Auburn.

From Clemson, I think you’ll get instate tuition rate.

So, you’d pay the most at Clemson, then Auburn, and the least at Bama.

This is amazing news - I had no idea I would be able to figure out housing before choosing a school. Thank you for making my day. :)

mom2collegekids, thank you, I hope things end up working out that way. I’m concerned about whether I’ll even get into Clemson, so getting instate tuition would be a wonderful bonus. And I didn’t know scholarship info came out that soon, I heard that you’re officially informed in March, so that’s definitely helpful for my impatience.

Thank you all. I honestly don’t know what I would do without all the knowledgeable and helpful people on here.

Schools that have rolling admissions often let you know about scholarships around the time of admission.

Schools with regular admission often let you know about scholarships in the spring.

Since you applied to Bama now, if Bama gets your school transcripts and test scores soon, then you’ll get your acceptance and scholarship info rather soon.

More about scholarships…within a few days, you’ll get an email from Bama how to set up your email acct and logon info for mybama. Do that and then you’ll have access to the scholarship app. You have to fill out the scholarship app. The sooner all of this is done, the sooner you’ll get scholarship notification.

After you get accepted to the school, apply to the honors college. You will get accepted to honors.

Send in your deposits as early as possible. You will have to eat the enrollment deposit of around 200 if you decide to go elsewhere, but it’s worth putting up the money to get into the honors dorms. If you read threads from this spring, there were a lot of panicked people who waited to commit and were panicking about getting into honors dorms, even though they were in the honors program. Luckily, things seem to have worked out, but it was a tense time for a lot of people. With more and more people coming to Bama from all over because of the great schollies, and with Auburn lowering their scholarships and their lack of housing, I see even more kids coming to Bama than before. I would definitely advise you to send in your housing deposit early, like before Christmas break, to get into honors housing. I understand the temptation to wait until March, since that is probably when you’ll get final word from Clemson, but by then, you’ll have a late pick date, and even though you’re in the honors program, you may have a hard time getting into honors housing. Good luck, and Roll Tide!

Thanks once again for the info. I just sent my scores in - all those $10 fees are going to add up quickly, but I guess I can’t complain if it gets me a scholarship - and will ask my school to send my transcript as soon as possible. Bama doesn’t require any recommendations, not even a counselor one, right?

i wonder if all honors kids that wanted to finally ended up in honors housing?

it was a bit of a mess, but everyone i know of did.

For admission, UA does not require any recommendations or essays. Some scholarships and special programs may, but the application for admission does not. Of all the schools I applied to, I felt that UA’s application was the easiest and one of the least expensive to complete when you consider the costs of the application fee and sending transcripts and SAT/ACT scores.

I am not sure about the “family atmosphere” of Auburn and Clemson, but I do know that when someone refers to the “Alabama Family” they mean more than just the people directly involved with the UA campus. All around Alabama you can mention that you are considering attending UA and people will stop what they are doing to talk with you about the school.

Since honors rooms have come available on and off throughout the summer, I would think anyone who has wanted one could get one. However, some kids got admitted very late…I think someone posted that they were accepted in May or June (is that right?), so I don’t know what happened with that person.

The bottom line is that while Bama has a lot of Honors Housing, if you want honors housing (especially if you want to choose the building and choose roommates), then you need to put deposits down early.

yes, there are still a handful of honors (girls) rooms available.

Just checking that I have my information right - if I send in my app now I could be accepted and get my scholarship offer within a matter of weeks. However, if I send in better scores from the September ACT they will raise my scholarship to match my new qualifications?

You are correct, although it wouldn’t hurt to call UA and get official confirmation of this.

Alright thanks. I was going to send an email today, but they seem to be editing those or something because none of the conselors or the admissions department in general had email addresses listed. I will call tomorrow and find out for sure.

Can I just fill it out first? My registrar is rarely at school during the summer because of budget cuts (I live in CA), but I want to get what I can do now done ASAP. Will my application expire if I don’t finish it after a certain amount of time?

You’re application won’t expire until the application deadline has passed, so you can start it now and finish it later. I recommend finishing it all, paying the fee to submit your application and sending your transcript when you can. UA understands that many hs registrars do not work over the summer and that they can be overloaded with transcript requests during the school year.

*However, if I send in better scores from the September ACT they will raise my scholarship to match my new qualifications? *

Yes, and it says as much in the Q&A section. The lower scholarship is replaced with the higher scholarship.

And…ACT scores have to be taken by Oct and SAT scores have to be taken by Nov.

Thanks mom2collegekids! I must have missed that when I was looking. Gosh that’s pretty nerve racking then that I only get one more shot to get a 30, it’s only two more points but still… I guess I will be studying a lot!

Agree, mavs. It sneaks up on you, doesn’t it? We too were wishing son had taken the ACT at an earlier sitting, as we were left with only two chances to bring the score up. I recommend taking the SAT as well. You may do better at a sitting of one over the other.

Good luck!

Isnt’ there a Sept ACT and an Oct ACT??
**
Also, take the SAT. ** Since Bama only counts the M+CR, some find it easier to get a better score that way.

Just checked…there is a Sept ACT …on Sept 11…sign up now. :)

I’m signed up for the Sep ACT already, but maybe I should sign up for Oct too just to be safe. Thanks for the SAT advice. I’ve taken it twice so far and for me the ACT is easier. My SAT math scores tend to be low. I’ve only taken the ACT once though and got a 28, so I’m hoping that now that I know what to expect I will do better on it. I know my SAT scores jumped a lot between my first and second tries.
