Does anybody know exactly when we get to choose our courses?

I know it's slightly early but I'd just like to know in advance.

registering for classes is done at orientation. [Binghamton University - Beginnings: Orientation: Freshmen](http://www2.binghamton.edu/orientation/session/freshmen.html)

Thanks for the reply.

I’m afraid I might not be able to make it for the ones in July and only the one in August.

On the website they say they recommend the summer ones.

Anyone know if it’s that big of a difference?

It shouldn’t affect you too much depending on what classes you want to register for. If you want to take some of the “typical” freshman classes, you may run into difficulty. Those classes (BIO 117/118, CHEM 107/108, WRIT 111, and intro History and Political Science) fill up quickly, despite the fact that they try to “save” slots. Once it’s full, it’s full. Other classes will be less of a problem.

Part of the reason they recommend the summer ones is because you live in a Hinman suite during those orientations (instead of your room like they do during the August one). You will meet more people by living with them, compared to only seeing them in the day and then going back to your room at night (which will probably be only you unless your roommate is attending the August orientation too). Living in the suite was really nice (we ended up playing cards until one in the morning) and I enjoyed meeting those girls.

Disclaimer: I did not stay in touch with any of the people I met at orientation. I think I was facebook friends with one of them, but I didn’t talk to her at all after that. My other friends actually met at orientation so it really is what you make of it regarding friends.

Thanks caemin for your reply!

Yea, I heard about the course thing as well, Which is the only trepidation I have for not attending.

Quick question however: where do parents stay during the summer orientation? (do they even come for the fall one?)

Thanks!

When I went to orientation, parents had the option of staying in Mohawk. My dad opted to stay in a hotel.

I’m not sure about the August orientation… They may not be a part of it because you will be moved into your room by that point, but I don’t really know.
