Has anyone logged onto the housing website to see their lottery number? There is no note or title saying this is your lottery number on my page - just a number followed by FC and then under another line NB Special Housing Accomodation Roomate Agreement Contract- Fall 2011 - which when I called housing I was told I didn't need to fill this out. Anyone have insight on this situation?

I see the same thing as you do. I’m confused.

Check your email. I think there was a server problem so they sent the number to your inbox.

Over 7500… No way I’m getting back into Rockoff, or any on-campus housing :(

Only got the first email that had no number. Never got a second one.

Did you get a lottery application confirmation? If you did and didn’t get your number yet, I would call the housing dept.

The second email should say “Lottery Alert!- Lottery number”

nomaddic- that is high but I have heard of people who have 9000 and over 10000 so at least you will be at the top of the waitlist if you don’t match housing at first.

I got 985… what are the odds I’d be able to get into an apartment on Busch?

Two years ago the cutoff for apartments was 759.

is there a cutoff for other types of housing? just so i know what to arrange for. my number is in the 3000’s

can anyone tell me what the cutoffs for suites and apartments on busch were last year? i have 14xx and i don’t know if what i should apply for.

I haven’t found any info on last year’s lottery, but there’s some info from prior years here:

It seems two years ago the cutoff for suites was 874 and the cutoff for doubles was 3093.

I got 10230. What do I do?

I lived at Birchwood Terrace apts. (272 Hamilton St.) my 3rd & 4th years at Rutgers. I liked it. Before you rent anywhere, try to talk to other tenants in the building to see what conditions are like and if they are happy there. Don’t believe internet reviews; I have seen too many that look fake.

Your roommates are an important part of how much you will enjoy any housing experience so try to choose wisely.

“can anyone tell me what the cutoffs for suites and apartments on busch were last year? i have 14xx and i don’t know if what i should apply for.”

The cutoffs will change from year to year. You and your roommates have to be flexible about what you will do if you don’t make a cutoff. For ex. if you are 6 and applying for a suite and don’t get it, have a plan about what you will do next. eg you can all go for doubles or 4 can try for apt and the other 2 for a double. It makes a difference what numbers you have of course.

I would apply for each thing as it comes up; you’ll either get it or you won’t. Then you can move onto the next thing.

The only thing you have to be sure of is that you don’t want a single because that comes up first. Your housing contract is not final until you choose a room and sign the document.

I think the biggest problem people have is when there are big groups (4-6) and then it is sometimes hard to get consensus on what to do next. If you’re trying for off-campus housing you could lose it to a group who is in agreement and is able to make a decision. So get organized.

cerps343 & nomaddic: Two years ago is not a very good estimate because at that time, signbacks were available for everyone living in apartments regardless of number. Therefore, very very few apartments ever opened up because they guaranteed on-campus housing if you ever got in.

Last year, the cutoff was ~3000, but everyone was really surprised it was that high. I suspect the suites cutoff will be a little higher this year (last year it was ~700, so maybe 1000?) and the apartment cutoff will be a lot lower.

Also, about the apartments, it does matter where your number is and what campus you’d like to be on. When I got my apartment last year with a ~1500 number, my group was already choosing from the last of the Busch apartments.

With a 1000 number, you have a fair chance at much of the most coveted housing on campus. But I’d advise rualum’s strategy. Talk it through with your friends and apply to housing as it comes. It’s a hassle, but it’s better than not thinking about it all and getting screwed over.

koto why should the apartment cutoff be a lot lower? I would think it would be about the same. Since there are a few more suites this year (Busch building) I would think it might even be a bit higher because some apartment people might have chosen to go to the newer suites.

Also, when you say last year the cutoff was ~3000, what was that for? doubles? apartments? total?

Are freshman guarenteed housing on campus?

yeah freshmen are guaranteed housing when the housing application comes out for incoming freshmen (i think it was in may? not too sure) do it asap so you get on the campus you want!

I just feel like many of the people who went for suites would have preferred apartments, but the suites application is before the apartments, so no one could have foreseen the high cutoff. This is just my opinion based on comments from my friends in suites now about my apartment.

~3000 was for apartments. Doubles are somewhere near 4000, but I can’t recall. And suites was a little over 700.

Ok koto now I understand what you’re saying.
