Do you actually know of anyone who got in with just a Core 40?

D received her acceptance e-mail today (10/10). She submitted her application online on August 1 and her scores were sent prior to that, but her high school didn’t send her transcript and the SSR until 9/19. So the acceptance was 3 weeks to the day from the date on which her last item was sent electronically.

Im getting so nervous for my D. She first applied sept 9th. All supporting docs in by sept27. Still no word. I feel from following this thread that I would have heard by now if she got in :(

My D are I were just at IU yesterday (gorgeous this time of year!), and the admissions official who gave the overview said the last few days they have been flooded with apps, and someone applying now should not expect a decision for five to eight weeks after last supporting doc is in. He said their turnaround earlier was much faster. He also said the admissions packet would be mailed 2-3 weeks after admission acceptance is sent in email and on OneStart.
This was our second visit, and some new things we learned this time: IU superscores ACT for merit scholarships (admissions app must be complete by Nov 1st for these). There is no wiggle room on the GPA or ACT/SAT scores, and only GPA through junior year counts.
From student dorm guides, we heard advice to choose your dorm neighborhood and put down your $300 deposit within 24-48 hours after the system is available for best choice. Even if you are not sure you are attending IU, it’s worth putting down the $300 deposit, as you can get most of it back if you choose another college later. And the date of your frosh dorm choice is used for priority of dorm choice soph year. The student guides said the system would be open Nov. 1st, but IU housing website just says “November” for incoming frosh and to check back online in late October for details. Not sure if you have to be admitted to make the dorm choice, I sure hope not as my D may not be admitted by then!

let us know which dorms were the closest and nicests?? thanks- we are still waiting from OOS in PA near pHiladelphia

Your worrying seems premature. Look at the timing in my post. D applied August 1; last supporting document in on September 19 (8 days before your last supporting document). Acceptance on 10/10 (yesterday). It’s only been TWO WEEKS since your D’s last supporting document went in. It says right on OneStart to not expect any updates for at least 3 weeks after everything is in.

I emailed IU Housing today and got a quick reply: they are “hoping” to begin accepting dorm contracts/dorm neighborhood preferences November 1st online, and students will need an admitted student network ID to sign up. Preferences include double or single room, etc.

I wonder if you can go ahead and fill in the housing application right away but then add a request for a specific roommate later?

yes, you can add roomate later

Today my D got an email from the Director of Admission. They met on a visit to the school last April. My d stayed in touch with her until now. She emailed to tell her how happy she was to see her hard work pay off with an increased ACT. She also graciously wanted to tell me d, that she was being admitted to IU. Happiness in our house. My d is so excited.
For those here who worry about their chances, read queries from high achieving kids asking if they will get in, and then get that sinking feeling that they don’t have a chance…Not true.
My D got in with a 25 ACT and a 3.35 GPA. No AP’s. She worked hard to get to that level.
I offer this as hope to other B students.
Go Hoosiers…

I checked the Naviance scattergram for D’s high school, and based on that, everyone with a 25 ACT and a 3.0 or above who applied in the past 4 years has been accepted. A few were deferred/waitlisted, but all were eventually accepted. With one or two exceptions, everyone with a 24 ACT and a 3.0 or above got in as well. Obviously that’s just one high school (an OOS suburban public), but it’s consistent with socaldad42’s daughter’s experience.

Son just admitted, in state. 3.4 gpa, strong upward trend (a couple of rough spots in early h.s.), 29 ACT composite(33 reading/31 English/28 science and the constant challenge, 24 math.

He had spoken with admissions last spring, worried about his lower than average gpa-- he was told rigor of curriculum and higher than average test scores will help.

Good luck to everyone!

my d got an email to her guidance counselr saying that they will admit her if she takes pre calc or trig bnext semester- which is impossile because she is in prob/stat and cant just switch to precalc while all the other kids have been in it since september. My guidance dept just needs to say that she had a semester of trig which they dont want to do So annoyred!!! not sure what to do? Ill call the women in admissions

^^^have you checked to see if there is cc course that you could take next semester? Possibly, you could meet the requirement in that way.

This is the first year of the new math requirement. The following statement was sent to HS gc. Hope this helps
Info about the math requirement: Students applying for fall 2012 must complete seven semesters of mathematics, including one semester of pre-calculus, trigonometry, or calculus. Read more about freshman admission requirements here. If you have students needing additional math credits, we recommend considering a dual credit course titled College Algebra, Pre-calculus, or Trigonometry from a regionally accredited institution.

My D just got admitted today, per OneStart (no email yet). Everything except counselor form with senior schedule was submitted online Sept. 6. Counselor form mailed Sept. 21, then when IU never received it, IU suggested faxing this form; faxed Oct. 11. OneStart did not show fax received, just changed today from Incomplete to Congrats. IU Admissions was helpful when I called twice about this wayward form, just had to stay on hold for a while.
D’s stats: 28 ACT, top 6% of HS class. Go Hoosiers!

just got accepted today! put in my application on 8/20, but i guess my counselor was kinda slow in getting the form in.

not my first choice by any means, but its a possibility.

i got accepted today too. sent in my app on 9/23 gave my counselor the form on 9/27. Don’t know when he sent it in but it might have been a week later then when i gave it to him. But only 3 weeks after i gave him the form

OOS with a 92 avg, 28 ACT and 1240/1800 SAT

Son applied in middle of September. It took about 3 weeks. Accepted direct admit into Kelly. He worked hard for his unweighted 4.0 and his ACT is a 33. He is in state. IU really does a great job with admissions and working the rolling admissions process. Merit scholarships are driven by the numbers at first, but offer additional scholarship opportunities. This school’s approach is almost unmatched with most public universities, and that includes Purdue to the north. Very grateful.

even though it says it will take 2-4 weeks to get the admit packet did anyone who received theirs already get theirs sooner than that?
