Hey guys thought I'd start off the thread for the 2012 G.S. applicants. Who else is applying on here?

I just might, but its looking like I’ll have to make my presence felt at a community college first and apply after.

Good luck to all applying.

I’m applying for sure. ED too. Any ideas on what they’re looking for?

I’m applying!! Early decision as well.

Really nervous, but I’m doing it. International Relations is my major.

FYI, there isn’t really an IR major at Columbia. It’s political science with an IR specialization, or something like that.

Good luck!

Bumpity Bump…
GS now has the Fall 2012 options listed on the online app! I’ll admit, after a year of waiting, I kind of fangirled out a bit when I finally saw “Fall 2012 - Early Decision” in the drop down.

My CC Honors Program just hosted an info session on the program with Alfred Ayoub after hosting Matt Rotstein last year. He had a lot of really good information regarding the GSAE exams. I may have to find a way to finance another trip up there to take it before December. :

Totally applying for the Fall. Attended a similar info session at my CC, apparently they take 2 or 3 students from my CC every year! I’m just hoping that having a 4.0 in the honors program for 42 credits is enough to offset my… less-than-stellar history before I took a semester off. Touring band + full time student = bad news bears for GPA…

Stats:

Age: 23
Applying early decision
Major: Financial Econ
Middlesex Community College GPA: 4.0 (w/ Honors)
Cumulative GPA: 3.2-ish >_<
Gap year: Americorps-City Year
EC: Phi Theta Kappa (board member), Manager Student Newspaper, College Assembly Student Rep., Taskforce for Academic Standards
HS / SAT: throws into fire

I want to apply, but as for right now I cannot decide. I am acclimating to my present institution and things are going reasonably well academically. I have, however, attempted to write the reasons for transfer out of my university into theirs and they do make sense. I am still deciding because I want to give my current school a chance before I finally decide. Does anyone know, statistically speaking, the acceptance rate for GS students?

Acceptance rates for General Studies have been listed at 23%.

I’m applying without too much expectation, but we’ll see. Definitely going ED. All I really have left to do is polish up the essay.

Yeah same here Yak, I’ll be getting to work on those over the break, as well as my Common App for Barnard and NYU. This semester was particularly writing heavy, so I’m looking forward to getting some R&R and getting a few books read I’ve had to put by the wayside for 4 months or so.
There’s a good question, what are all my fellow Fall 2012’ers doing to relax over the winter break. (Essential reading, veggin’ out, watching some bad TV?)

I get the honor of working shiftwork throughout the holiday season. Gotta love the navy (for 8 more months)

I salute you sir…thank you for your service.

Thank you. As proud as I am to do it, I am very excited to move on and get my education.

Can’t help the innate southern hospitality…
Well, stay safe sweetie; perhaps we will be class mates come August.

Alright mates…grades are in for semester! Time for some bi-annual bragging rights.

4 A’s and a B in Honors Ea. Am. Hist. I’m up 0.018 points to a cum. 3.712! A bit geeky I know, but after graduating from HS with barely a 2.0, I feel like a top dog right now…

How’d everyone else fare? (If you’re currently enrolled.)

Ugh, horrid. 4 A’s but Honors Calc ruined my 4.0 with an A-. Down to a 3.97 :’(. Mind you I’ve got to distract the adcoms as much as possible away from my chaos years at my other community college. Got out of there with a measly 2.67 gpa… Totally different major now, but still, I need all the upward trend I can get!

I wouldn’t worry at all about an A-. Now if it was a C-, sure, maybe worry. They won’t care at all.

EDIT: Unless you’re just trolling ;)

lol not trollin’… It’s just that bubble that you get into when you’ve carried a perfect 4.0 for 2 semesters already and then get it popped by one stickler of a professor in the hardest class you’ve got with an stupid A-…

Anyway, I just hope the idea still gets across that I’m a new person and a vastly superior student now than I have been historically.
