@ChaunceyB: Welcome! What major are you planning to take?

@liquid: you went without me i want some sort of sweatshirt or something

I still haven’t received my acceptance package and it’s about to be a week since i got the call…so i’m freaking out.

but i did get a storybook invite.

Ugh, had my nterview Thursday… can’t log onto F/A, no call, no mail… looks like rejection. I thought it went petty well too :(

@Fly: Maybe they’re just taking a little bit more time to review your application, no?

Thanks! More than likely I’ll be …Economics/Political Science

Great! Then if I do get in we’ll have some classes together ;)

I’ll be joining you guys then I suppose lol. I’m going for Economics as well - Financial Economics.

Speaking of, assuming one of you is transferring like me to be a Junior, have either of you guys tried to plan out a rough econ curriculum yet? I’m only done with Calc I in terms of maths, and since they say you must have Econometrics done before Senior year, my next two semesters MUST look like:

Fall 2012 [Junior]:
3cr - Intermediate Macroeconomics (prereq. for Econometrics)
3cr - Calculus III (prereq. for Econometrics)
3cr - Stats w/ calc (prereq. for Econometrics and Intermediate Micro)
3cr - University Writing (req. first semester)
3cr - Intermediate French I (req. 4 sequential semesters, just took Intro to French II)

Spring 2013 [Junior]:
- Intermediate Microeconomics
- Econometrics (req. by this semester)
- Intermediate French II
- other reqs

Thats… a lot of math for one semester. And… a lot of credits for a first semester because of Univ writing and the (imho dumb) requirement that you must continually take a language every semester until you fulfill the requirement. I heard that 12-13 credits is max what a first-semester GSer should take.

Hi Liquid. Well, I still don’t know if I was accepted, but either way, I applied as a freshman. Yeah, I’ve also read that you shouldn’t take more than 12-13 credits in the first year. I still don’t know which major I’ll take, but I’m thinking plain old good Economics (if not, then Economics - Mathematics or Economics - Finance).

Saying that, I still don’t know my curricular plan.

how long after your application was complete did you hear a response from admissions?

Mine still says nothing about being completed…
I can log intro FA, but no call or packages :-(

@blankety123: Hi! My application was submitted on February 29, but my final documents (as in, transcripts and TOEFL) only arrived on mid/late-March. I still haven’t received a reply. Now they’re saying that, until June 1, they’ll give me an answer.

Liquid - I’ll be coming in as a Junior as well and was about to start looking at rough draft of how my semesters would lay out, so I appreciate your work in advance, LOL.

The math part is a big concern for me, tbqh. While I was a math whiz in high school, I haven’t looked at a Calculus problem in 15 years at this point.

thanks for the info marlon!!

I’m the complete opposite because I am a reader/writer who is petrified of numbers and even words that spell numbers!! I will attempt to take the easiest possible math req. and probably beg for help with that!

Woo hoo!! I got in! I just got my package! I think I am more relieved than excited. I am pretty sure I have an ulcer now from the wait period…

@Fly Did you send them a thank you note after your interview? I sent in a hand written note via snail mail.

nope… whoops am I suppposed to? ughh… I still cant log into Fin Aid as of today and have received no notification. My interview was Thursday… I’m pretty discouraged. What should I do? Anyways, CONGRATS ELIZ!!!

@marlon haha your teacher is cruel man! Good luck on the admissions round, though. Hopefully the follies of your professors won’t affect your decision

Congratulations Elizabeth! Really great news

@Fly Don’t worry about it. I checked the fin aid about an hour before I got the call and I couldn’t log in. After I got the call at about 12-ish, I checked again and I could log in. If they gave you an interview, they must be somewhat interested in you. Maybe they just wanted to clarify a few things. Patience is key! :)

I actually just returned from CU and got myself a sweatshirt I’m honestly not sure whether to wear it or just frame the bloody thing haha.

Congrats Elizabeth, that’s great news!!

@Fly - Hang in there my friend. As tempting as it is, don’t count yourself out. From the sounds of it, you gave a great interview.

@Chauncey - If you’re interested in putting together a rough schedule, here are some links you might find useful:

This is the core - A series of requirements that all GSers must take regardless of their major: [The Core | General Studies](http://www.gs.columbia.edu/the-core)

Here’s a worksheet so that you can try to get a general idea of what courses you may have already taken that will transfer so you can check them off:

Here are the economics major requirements followed by a list of suggested tracks for electives:

If you have any questions about prerequisites for courses, often times you can click the links for the course numbers and it will take you to a page that will show you the available sections and the official prerequisites for the course.

There may be more to a major at Columbia University that I am unaware of; I’m not an expert. But from what I’ve done in terms of preliminary research, this should be a good start if not the whole package. Good luck!

@hiimafrican - Maybe this is gross, but I’ve worn my brand new Columbia T-shirt every day of finals this week hahaha. I’ve gotten so many comments on it and I’m always proud to say “yes, I’ve been accepted to Columbia!” Wear it and break it in, brother, you earned it!!!
