Fall 2012 Admission Decisions

Got my call from Columbia GS yesterday. Know I’m new here but now all I have to do is figure out how to pay for it.

And another one!! Omg…congrats…did you interview?

lenard…did you apply for the scholarship?

I did not interview and I did apply for the scholarship. When I spoke to the rep, they said that my essay and my interest in the humanities were appealing to them.

Ughhh! So awesome…well good luck! Maybe I will be lucky enough to get a spot too!

Does CU make a phone call to every student who gets accepted, or the phone call goes out to certain students who are admitted to different programs?

kid: I got my package in the mail before I got my phone call

Hey brandi28. What is FA?

Thank you ChaunceyB. I just received an e-mail from CU just two days stating that they just made their decisions and applicants should be receiving their letters by next week. I just joined this site today and briefly read these forums. CU mostly accepts students with a GPA of 3.8-4.0. My GPA is 3.77. I have one summer class I’m taking now, which will probably increase it a little more, but do you think 3.77 is close to the acceptance range of 3.8?

That doesn’t seem fair, their minimum requirement is 3.0, they should be considering all students from 3.0 and up. I thought their process was “holistic” (their word)?

I have a 3.5~ range.

And how did you get this email?

FA is financial aid.

GS’ admissions process is holistic. That said, they accept the best applicants. So you can apply with a 3.0+, but your odds of acceptance are better the higher your GPA. There’s no meaningful difference between a 3.77 and a 3.80, but more higher grades the better (especially recent grades).

I e-mailed them in mid June and haven’t received a response until two days ago. I don’t know i was confident about getting accepted but after reading this forum, so many prospective students have done so much better with an average GPA ranging from 3.96 to 4.0. Suddenly, I don’t feel too hot anymore. =(

The forum is a negative place to be. EVERY forum puts you down. Go to a game forum, say World of Warcraft, you’d think it’s the worst game ever. Any shooter game, same idea.

Go to a money forum - it’s the end of the world. You’d have to see the word “market” to be sure it wasn’t the end of the world. There’s always a crash coming. ALWAYS. A good market is an outlier in fact.

Here too. No different. That’s why I try not to let it bother me too much. I only look for facts. Like how you got your email and I didn’t.

What is the % that once you’re accepted they call you? Why do they call you to tell you you’re receiving a package? I don’t understand.

Hm. That’s what I figured it meant. I just had to clarify it. Thank you campaigner. Also, do all GS applicants, those who CU find interesting, receive a phone interview? I never had one, and I applied for the Bio and History programs at GS.

When did you apply dunnolol? And did you take the GSAE?

I took the GSAE and I applied four months ago from today. I submitted the second part of the application (to complete it) two or three days before the deadline.

I applied on the deadline for the regular decision on June 1st. That’s odd to see that you haven’t received a letter yet, but then again, you applied four months ago. That was still regular decision I believe, so Columbia must’ve gathered all the applications from regular decision applicants as of this week and now has decided who will be accepted and who will be not. I took GSAE on June 5th. I’ve been checking my emails and the application online almost everyday. I’m also prepared for the worst.

still i received NOTHING! no email no call no package NOTHING!! i am getting very upset i really wanted a spot

@kidanimated i took mine the same day! did you do the 10-1?? please respond! did you interview? i at least did that probably screwed it up!!!

@brandi28 yes i took the exam at 10. you received a phone interview? i didn’t even get a phone interview. i guess that means your chance of getting in is much higher than mine. the only reason why i received an email from cu is because i sent them an email concerning the online tracking application and questioned them about how would candidates receive their letters. where did you sit when you took the exam?
