still looking for more ways to get involved.

Recs matter a great deal for transfer students, so make sure your recs portray you as insightful and having a lot to offer the classroom. Your PS should be very specific in terms how you can benefit from Northwestern and what you can offer it in return. Imagine your years at NU and what they would look like. What classes would you want to take, professors you want to work with, clubs you want to get involved in, etc? Show how your needs are not being met by your current school without disparaging it (this would show your level of professionalism and maturity). Acceptance rate was 17% for the most recent entering cohort of transfer students.

Are you a freshman? This matters a lot. If so, I would really recommend retaking the ACT or taking the SAT. Your scores and hs stats still weigh heavily.

If you’re not a freshman, I think you should have a decent shot. Just try to get more involved in school, so you seem more “well-rounded”.

Anyone know my chances?

Current School: CC in California
College GPA: 3.12 (Are they going to look at my spring grades? cause I’m planing on getting straight A’s which would lift me to 3.52)
HS GPA: 3.6/4.0 uw/w
College Credits: 31 by the end of this year
SAT: 2090 Superscore (2020 best single score)
Misc: Volunteer at 2 hospitals, one of which is a hands on internship, 3 year of track and field in hs, taught korean at a Korean school (still volunteer), volunteered at a therapeutic recreation center (camp for mentally/physically handicapped children), a couple clubs, got awards in piano.

My main concern is GPA in both HS and College. I had a calculus class which killed me…

Thoughts?

Hi! Could someone tell me my chances?

Currently a sophomore in a 4 yr private university. I was a pharmd. D major my first three semesters but changed to biology because I really want to become a doctor (took a big chance there!).

High School-
96.63 gpa weighted/94.4 not weighted- upwards trend
Bad SAT scores- 650/670/650
I do not want to send my ACT scores
6 AP courses, 1 college course and the rest are honors
LOTS OF EC’s- president of clubs, 2 honor societies, basketball, volunteered, drama, etc…

University- St. John’s/ pharmd then biology
GPA- 3.8, downwards because I really wasn’t interested in the courses. One bad grade while others are A’s. The bad grade isnt a science or math course.
Part of many organizations, peer educator, volunteer at a hospital and animal shelter, research, etc…
deans list and other honors

^If you haven’t taken organic chemistry, you may want to stay where you are to keep that high GPA. The risk for falling GPA is very real if you are going to take organic chemistry at NU. Rumor has it orgo at NU is the toughest in the country. The fact that NU does not grant any orgo credit from anywhere else, including Harvard (used to be the only school from which the credits were allowed), seems to support that.

Two anedotal examples:

 1. A premed at Penn took it when she came home for the summer. She said it’s the hardest class she’d ever taken in college.
 2. One of my HPME (the BS/MD program at NU) friends scored 36 on MCAT just for fun and curiosity but only managed two B+ in the orgo sequence.

There’s another NU 2012 transfer thread here: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/transfer-students/1300145-official-northwestern-transfer-fall-2012-a.html

Maybe a mod could combine them?
