applying as a sophomore at UM-Dearborn for Spring term 2012

Fall 2010:
2.86 at Grand Valley State University (brutal i know) 14 credits
Winter 2011 to present:
3.93 at U of M dearborn with two A+'s, 35 credits completed, 13 more credits in progress

EC’s are pretty weak for college- Econ and Poli Sci club member
EC’s for high school- Varsity Golf/Hockey all four years
exec. board
3.0 GPA

@michael - It may be difficult for the adcom to ignore the 2.8 at GVSU or the 3.0 HS GPA. If your essays convey how you have changed from your past into your newly molded self at UM-Dearborn, you may have a good chance. The 3.9 at UM is certainly keeping you afloat, if possible, submit a letter of rec from one of your current professors.

More question… The background is not good enough to Umich, will essays help me out a little bit? (if I can write impressive one…)

aerospace- if you are applying as a junior transfer, you’re chances will be much better. considering that you didn’t put up your high school stats, i’m guessing those aren’t too hot? if that is the case, then you should probably wait until you can transfer in as a junior to improve your chances.

zenodang and rickicarter- i don’t know enough about international admissions to fairly chance either of you. but rickicarter, i would say that the essays are not very important. if you write a terrible essay, that might be enough for them to decline you, but if you write an amazing essay then that alone will not get you in

Thanks for the information, UMich is kind of a higher choice for me, but I will still have a shot, who knows what will happen, right?

I just missed the chance to have a higher grade before I make the decision… anyway, congratulation for the admitted, I saw you already receive the offer on last threads. :)

It says UofM received my Common App on December 23, but I’m curious when my additional materials will show up on Wolverine Access. Right now they have my ACT score but nothing else is showing up. I know UM is very slow about updating the information on WA but I was just wondering how long it took for your information to show up after your application was received. Thank you :)!
