Recommendations: I got it from a teacher correlated with my major

My grades and SAT scores aren't the greatest, but I just want to get into the school - I don't care for scholars or anything.

My primary concern is especially since my school is absurdly competitive an everyone is applying...

I do not think you will be admitted to fall 2013. At best, I would think you would get freshman connection. You are not in the top 5% of your class, your GPA is less than an A. You SAT is less than 1250. I would love to be wrong and I really hope I am. Good luck it is only 21 more days.

I have to disagree with the above poster. First off you do NOT have to be in the top 5% of your class to be admitted to UMD, most of the students are NOT. Second, his SAT and GPA aren’t great, but they are not horrible either, probably average for UMD. Third, he is an in-state student, which greatly increases his chances of acceptance. Again, I would be shocked if you do not get admitted for Fall 2013 semester. When the decisions come out in 21 days PM wether you got in or not.

An important factor will be what county you live in. If it is Montgomery or Howard your chanes will be less. Talbot or Washington county or anywhere away from DC will help you.

To the above poster, I have never actually heard of the county making a difference for admission. You probably have more knowledge than myself on that topic, so I will trust you. I do have a question though, how does UMD treat students from Frederick County?

Unfortunately his stats are not average for UMD. Both his SAT and GPA are <25%. GPA is probably somewhere around bottom 15% and his SAT is roughly lower 20s %.

Also being asian doesn’t help.

I would hope for freshman connection but honestly it is a reach.

Silientkink,
UMDCP considers home county in admissions decisions to increase diversity of instate students, if they used stats only the richer suburban counties would be even more over represented.

I don’t know specifcally about Frederick but would think it would be a neutral or slight plus esp. If from the more rural areas.

TerpGuy you are right his stats are a little low for UMD, but I still think he has a solid chance for admissions. And to the Mom24Boys thank you for the info I had actually never known that different counties had different chances.
