Fall 2013 Calendar or Start Date?

Hi guys... I've been scouring the Tulane website to find out what day school would start for my son if he gets in. (he has a summer job as a camp counselor, and we need to know in advance if he won't be able to work through the 3rd week in August.)

Any idea of a date, or where to find it? I guess I could just email them but I figured this would be faster.

Mavitale,

There are calendars up on the site through spring 2013. They don’t have the fall 2013 one up yet. I found the ones that are up at the tulane.edu site, then clicked academics along the time, then undergraduate majors and minors right below that. Then I clicked academic calendars along the right.

I think that the fall semester generally starts in late August, Aug. 25 is sticking in my head for move in day for this past August.

Hi Mavitale - Although the calendar says ‘pending’ - it looks like the proposed start date of the 2013 Fall semester is Aug 26th. Here’s the link…

Awesome! Thanks guys. That would work for him. ;)

how does the freshman orientation process work? do they go for a few days over the summer, or do they arrive a few days prior to upperclassmen just before classes start?

Orientation is usually in June. If I remember correctly, it’s two days long. You will have an opportunity to choose from several dates.

Just adding to what kreativekat said, attending June orientation is not mandatory, but it is great to do for several reasons. Besides the obvious of getting to know the campus and the way things work, you get to talk to advisors and sign up for classes. Also, because by definition everyone attending is 99.8% likely to show up in August, it is a great way to meet a potential roommate.

Also, there is a program that starts a week before move-in called The NOLA Experience. A selected group (and by selected I mean there are only so many slots, and I think it is first come, first accepted but I cannot fully recall the criteria) is able to partake in one of several different tracks. You get to move in to the dorm early, then go on either some outdoor adventures in rural Louisiana, or do various things around the city like explore different cuisines and learn about New Orleans history. There is a charge for this and it does not take the place of orientation, but I bring it up because clearly it is a kind of secondary orientation, if you will.
