^^ Wow. Congratulations, Kieran!

I remember seeing something about “Global Scholarship” for international students on the website.

Ah, I had never seen that before. I wonder if it is new? In any case, it sounds like it is in place of the DHS for International students, perhaps. Thanks for pointing that out, nova2nola. I guess I shouldn’t have been so lazy and done a search on that term before posting.

Mnzxcdmn: What country are you from? Did you apply to any other schools in the USA?

Is there an advantage to accepting your admission offer this soon?

Just peace of mind having it done. There is no advantage for dorms, registration, or anything like that.

Looks like a second selection for those currently offered $. Think I read it happens on or after a scholarship weekend. If I’m correct, does anyone know the date of the weekend? I’m confused about which scholarships from Tulane are now closed and which ones are still in the selection process.

Not sure exactly what you mean spackler, but I will give it a try. There are two categories of scholarships. One is the group of merit awards everyone is considered for (Presidential, Distinguished Scholar, Founders, etc). These are decided upon admission to the university, so they are rolling notification all the way to April 1. But once you have heard what your award is, or lack thereof, that is pretty much the last word. There is occasional reconsideration of these, but that is on a request basis and not often granted.

The second type of merit scholarship are those you apply for. They are the DHS, the Paul Tulane Award, and the Community Service Scholarship. The deadline for applying to get the DHS and PTA has passed. One can apply for the Community Service Scholarship until January 15.

There is no scholarship weekend of which I am aware. Not sure where you heard this. Maybe they confused Tulane with another school?

Thanks FallenC that clears it up.

Please chance me for Regular decision UCB and UI Urbana Champaign ?

KMotwani - Why would you post that on the Tulane thread?

Could someone on here who is statistic savvy give a rough estimate on Tulane’s EA acceptence rate?

I don’t think it is a matter of being statistics savvy. It is a matter of knowing how many applied EA and how many we’re accepted. Absent any information on those numbers, even a rough estimate is impossible. I don’t know them, but maybe someone else saw something published somewhere.

I do know that scholarships like the Musicianship award and some other art awards are not announced until after the March 15th deadline. We have no idea how much these are for though. The website and the contact we have had with the person in charge of arts portfolios hasn’t been super specific (of course we didn’t ask for specifics either). That deadline also happens to coincide with an accepted students weekend so perhaps that is what spackler was referring to?

I am really sad now… my dad just got off the phone with Tulane’s bowling coach and apparently they only have between 1000 and 9000 dollar athletic scholarships available… I can’t go if I have to pay another 25k/year at best… :/

Bowler - Maybe try to close the gap with outside scholarships?? Most are only $1000-$2000 per year, but they might add up if you apply for many. Your HS guidance counselor might be of help with this. Best of luck - don’t give up!

I am going to have to do everything I can because I really want to go to Tulane. I hope I can qualify for a good financial aid package… this is just really sad because I thought they could offer more than that. Or I could just have thousands and thousands of dollars in debt after I graduate. -_-

Don’t take on major debt, but don’t get sad yet. FA packages for need can be very surprising sometimes. You won’t know until they send you that information, and it usually isn’t until the middle to end of March. Who knows, if you get a $9,000 athletic scholarship and decent grant money from a need-based package, the debt from undergrad could be rather small. Plus any outside scholarships as nova2nola suggests, of course.
