I wonder who ever else waiting for the acceptance here ?

Me! Misshotan

phew ok then I am not the only one left who wait for news from GS. But Fy, you have more chance than me to be accepted I am sure. Let see I believe we will get mail/fedex by next Friday.

Actually I was expected a phone interview because my case is really complicated, I tried to explain in my essay but it was not enough to write in 2000 words, and I did not write optional essay either, that is why I highly assume that I probably rejected so they don’t need to more info about me or explanation and of course my gpa is low and my toefl is 90, I have been told min toefl must be 100.

but they just extended the deadline to May 15th. that said, it’s another 3 weeks to go… oh my effing god.

i don’t know what kind of people they are interested in, but it seems like they want figured-out, mature, dedicated and serious people. and everyone’s case here is kinda complicated, it’s the ‘complicated’ part that defines us, the opposite of ‘complicated’ is stereotype and boring.

Don’t forget me! I’m waiting…wait another 3 weeks? Torture!

just got into UCLA tonight! i called Columbia today and asked when i’d be getting my decision. my decision was finalized monday and they said i’d have it by the end of this week, but i don’t think i’ll have it until next week now. i just wanted to let you guys know, so you don’t lose hope! i think they are just overwhelmed and a tad behind on mailing.

best of luck to everyone!

Hang in there, guys!

Still waiting here. My application is still in review and should expect a decision in 1-2 weeks. I was hoping to know before finals. Good luck everyone still waiting.

Congrats on UCLA!

So, I have been following this thread for a month or so hoping to somehow become a little less anxious about the whole process and needless to say it’s not working. While I really would like to go to CU, I don’t have much of a choice now that I was rejected from all the UCs I applied to, including UCSB.

So, what I’m wondering is what are my chances of getting into GS? I have a 3.65 within the last couple years (60ish units) and got a 33 on my ACT. I went to Berklee out of high school but dropped out because I had anxiety and depression issues, which in talked about in my essay. I think my letters are good (2 teachers, one from UC Berkeley, one from Columbia), but I haven’t read them. Mostly I’m worried that I haven’t always put school as a first priority, and while I have the whole music thing, I’m not a veteran and do not have a high level of professional success.

Any feedback appreciated.

Apply, If you haven’t already. Actually last years GS valedictorian was a high school drop out because of anxiety/depression, now he’s going into neurology. Hope that helps, probably not. :-(

deathtocraig, following a traditional path you have a bit of time to find yourself and figure things out. with gs and other continuing education programs applicants should have a clear idea of what they want to do and why those respective schools are the perfect springboard for their future goals. articulate that in your essay and you will always have a good chance of gaining acceptance.

I’m gonna go with misteruee on this one. My cumulative GPA, that means counting all my crap C’s from 5+ years ago on my transcripts, when I applied was 3.53 and I’ve been accepted for the fall. The catch? Well, I articulated what I had done in the military, why now was the time for me to go to Columbia, what I plan to do there, how I’ve contributed at a community college level, how I plan on continuing to contribute at Columbia, and why a traditional Ivy League education will better enable me to pursue my goals. I also had a clear idea of what I wanted to do down the road at a graduate level. I think if you can be that specific about your plans after Columbia it’s a big win for you.

Your essay should capture why Columbia is the place for you. If you can do it without coming off as a jerk, make it clear that you’re driven and make it look obvious that you’re going to be successful regardless of whether or not they accept you. I hope that makes sense.

Oh - and where is my storybook invite? I can’t get on there.

Maybe I should clarify, I have already applied early decision.

Motame- thanks for the info. All of the stress from waiting was further intensified by getting my UC apps back, but I’ve always felt like I might have a better shot at GS anyways.

Also, in the unfortunate event that I’m not accepted, does anyone know if there’s an appeal process/what it looks like?

Congrats to those who have gotten in, hopefully I’ll be joining you soon.

When I sent my application in I was so sure of it. I worked on my essay for weeks, sought out the best recommendations I could find and was really positive about it. Now, it feels like it’s been so long and since they keep changing the date every time I contact them my hopes have significantly diminished. Quite honestly, after last week’s wave of acceptances I’m not expecting to see a FedEx envelope at my door… Don’t get me wrong, I’d still love to get in and go on for the fall, I just don’t see it happening anymore.

spot on to6284! you read my mind.

Hey Guys,
I got my rejection letter from GS today after 12 pm. As you know here this is what I was expecting, so I was not surprised.
And to help to other future candidates I will give my stats, it may help you to understand what they are looking for.
- Low GPA
I studied in an another country, even though I got high score, kind of SAT test and entered ivy league school, I dropped off my college in first year with very low GPA lower than 3.50.

Low TOEFL score
I did not SAT because I am not native english speaker instead I took TOEFL test. I scored 90, but GS asks minimum 100.

Sad Sloppy Essay
I had hurried about my essay, even I am scriptwriter in real life, I asked help to correct my writings because I wasn’t confident on writing english I wanted it perfect english but everybody added something to my essay. I wrote with a serious attitude I did not use any funny sentences because I have been told that write seriously. So in the end I was not very careful, It had couple punctuation mistakes.

I am so Confident picture
I have sent very presentable picture ( Blue shirt and serious glasses ) taken in a museum library : ) oh c’mon

I’m 40
I am joking they don’t consider this. I had seen a man around his 50’s at GS study room.

Sorry to hear that misshotan but don’t get discouraged. Find your niche and you will succeed. + there’s always grad school! Go to another school, work hard and then go for Ivy League.
Best of luck to you!

Thank you Natdcny, you are right, now grad school is my target, and I have plenty of time and chance to raise my scores. : )

so now we know that they started sending rejecting letters. Probably They sent it to me on Friday or Thursday because I live in New York. It takes 1 or 2 days.
