Fall 2013 Transfer Housing?!

Hi everyone! I'm going to be attending UB this fall and I had just deposited my admissions enrollment and housing fee. However, after visiting UB yesterday, I didn't know which dorms I want to stay in. During the visit, they showed us Governors and personally I disliked it. I would like your experiences in dorming in the north and south campus and what you feel is a great place to dorm at. By the way, I can't stay in the apartments because I don't have enough credits! So thank you in advance! :)

I’m not a student that has stayed in the dorms - but I am the parent of 2 UB students, a rising senior who transferred in as a junior (Flint Village apartments) and an incoming freshman. I’ve toured both Ellicott and Governors and I have to agree with you about Governors. While it is closer to the academic spine and seems to have a reputation for being a little quieter and more study-oriented, I have to admit that despite being aboveground and having windows it felt like a basement. It seemed dark and dingy. Students who live there seem to love it though. I preferred Ellicott despite the fact that it’s farther away. The rooms seemed bigger and brighter, the new dining hall was really nice - so was the exercise complex. Although you paid your deposit pretty late, they have designated housing for transfer students so you may still have North Campus availability. Many students like the South Campus because they can walk to stores, easier access to the light rail and busses, and greater opportunity for suite style rooms. The downside is classes for most majors - and almost all gened’s - are on North campus. So - unless you have a South campus major you’ll be spending some time on the bus. Check out the campus housinng page - they have 3d renderings of the different rooms, some photos, and information on the amenities of all the residence halls. Hopefully you’ll also get some responses from current students. Good Luck & Congratulations!

thank you for your input! I would LOVE to stay on the north campus but I heard it was all pretty much filled. I may be considering the south campus but I’ll still put the north campus at the Ellicott :)
