Fall 2013 Transfer Thread

Hi, as a transfer student will you gays gonna live? On campus or out of campus? The only on campus housing left is in northwood. But it is far away form central campus.

it is better to live in Bursely hall or north wood. I wanna a quite place and have few party.

@Maomix, why don’t you like it at Oakland?

@RelSparty it’s literally 2 miles from my house and everything about it screams mediocre. They don’t offer some areas that I really want to study (like Arabic). Classes are usually dumbed down and I prefer critical thinking. I know more than my advisors. The other day my advisor asked me if I wanted to minor in something that doesn’t exist, and I pointed that out to him. It’s a commuter campus so there’s no sense of community. I’ve made like 2 friends because everyone has friends at home so they don’t bother socializing here. It’s super conservative. Just not what I want in schoo at all. I was originally supposed to go to MSU, but my parents backed out of money last minute so I didn’t even apply to OU soon enough to get a good FA package.

Plus, my parents are moving to Georgia and I don’t want to pay rent and tuition to go to a school I’m not happy at.

hi guys, i am applying as an electrical engineering major from california community college. my overall gpa is 3.91, but i got that 1 B from low-level ESL class. i have completed series of calculus, linear algebra, english composition, 1st calculus based physics. now im taking differential equation, second calculus based physics and general chem. however, 2 weeks ago i got an email from umich, and im confused with this email. this is the email:

Your application for the Engineering program for the Fall 2013 term received an initial review and you are receiving this email to let you know the status of your application review:

The outcome of the initial review is that your application decision will be made after we have reviewed grades from the term currently in progress.

so did i get rejected?wait listed? or what? does anyone get the same email as mine? im really confused and idk what to do. i really wanna go to umich. thanks for ur help guys!

@awp1992 I’ve never heard of that. They probably want to make sure you’re on the same track (though your grades are really great). I would call office of admissions and ask just to be sure though.

It means that they have reviewed your application as it stands right now, but won’t make a decision either way until after you submit your transcripts from this semester. So basically if this semester gets done May 1st, you will receive a decision some time after that.

Rejected, but offered a spot on the ‘Extended Waitlist’.

Anyone know how small the chances are?

it’s interesting that they wanted your current semester gpa. i have a friend who might be in the same situation, he said he got no news from mich, but based on his determination of making this sem gpa high i think mich’s considering him. By the way, i got in the mich too but is also waiting for cornell (probably won’t make it). go luck to you all and let’s go bllue together

Ahh, okay. Well just make sure you stay really proactive when you get to the CC. If it’s anything like mine, a majority of the student body will be fine with getting decent grades and going home at the end of the day. It’ll be up to you to go and find out what faculty members are active doing projects and research because they may not be approached by many students on a regular basis. It can be kinda intimidating at first, but it’s not too bad after you start, especially if you build a bond with the faculty you’re working with. You seem like a sharp guy, so I’m sure you’ll have no problem doing what you have to do :)

I actually haven’t heard anything from Michigan yet…which is really starting to frustrate me. Honestly, if I wasn’t offered a decent financial aid package, I wouldn’t go anyway. I’d just go to Cal Poly SLO. Even so, the wait sure sucks :/

Anyone else scared of adjusting to a huge school and making friends as a transfer student at U of Michigan?

@maomix, I understand. Best of luck to you in the future, my friend.

@RelSparty, have you still not heard back yet?

ok, checked my mail today - accepted

I’m international

lol of course i do mean LSA - Economics not CAS

@privateinem now im taking 19 units and all major classes and still maintaining A for 3 classes. i think im going to get B for general chemistry which could make my gpa for this semester to be 3.7-3.8. oh well, hopefully i will get into umich. i got accepted to UCSD. waiting for ucla, uc berkeley, uw-madison, gatech.

Accepted long time ago, still thinking should go or not since it is a public. Can anybody give me some advice? Please!
