Fall 2013 Transfers

hey guys, i applied to Rutgers Business School New Brunswick and Arts and Sciences on jan 23rd. I got into both schools 2 days later (jan 25). I had a 3.76 gpa at mercer county community college. After this semester finishes I’m expecting to be slightly above 3.8. I’ll be graduating with my associates degree. I’m an accounting major. Do any of you know if transfer students with their associates degree are required to take the rutgers expos writing class there in the first semester? I took my eng101 class while I was still in high school. Back then I was going to high school fulltime and part time college. Now i’m worried i might not get credit for that, atleast according to njtransfer.

Hey everyone

I applied to Rutgers about 3 months ago but I added Rutgers-Newark to my application on March 7th which is after the due date. Does anyone know if that will hurt my chances of being admitted?

Any chance I will hear back before june 30th since I am transferring to sas-nb from school of cj in newark?

fratrut: did you take english 101 and 102 at a college?

anonymous09: does it say you can apply to two colleges at once? for a school to school transfer within Rutgers, we aren’t allowed to apply to more than one school at a time.

giantsfan92: i hope we hear back within 2 weeks because registration is coming soon. one of my advisers said i’d probably hear back by may. i’m hoping we don’t have to wait that long. if they don’t notify us by registration, we’d have to register for classes at newark and then wait until we get accepted and then go over there and make a new schedule. it’ll suck because most of the classes will have already filled up.

smileasec:

yes i did take eng 101 and eng102 at my local community college. But at the time i was enrolled in eng 101, i was still in high school. i hope i’m not confusing you. I mean i had high school in the morning then i drove to the community college at night for the eng 101 class.

Did you get a C or higher? If you did, I’m pretty sure your english credits will transfer over and you won’t have to take it again. I don’t see why they wouldn’t accept them. I took Bio 101 and 102 my senior year in high school at a community college, got a B in both courses, and they transferred over. :)

smileasec: I forgot to mention I am actually trying to transfer from Rowan. I added Newark to my application a little late. I had a 3.0 HS gpa and a 3.55 gpa my first semester here, also a 1580/2400 on my SAT. Hope my chances are good!

Anonymous69: you will definitely get into newark :)

yup registration is Newark is this week. I guess I will be getting a very bad schedule come this fall. I am ok with it as long as I’m in NB

Giantsfan92: Same here! :)

how many credits are you guys planning to take in the fall?

Probably 17. It depends on what classes will actually be open by the time I can register :(

How bout you? and have you decided whether you will go to the SAS or RBS?

I have decided to go to RBS, Since my major is accounting. I was planning on taking 18 credits. Hopefully it won’t be too much.

Accounting Information Systems - 458 (3 credits - I heard that it is hard as 15 credits combined and they have a project that required 100 hours to finish and that is not even counting the exams and quizes every week.)

Intermediate Accounting - 325 (3 credits - again another hard class)

Introduction to Management - 301 (3 credits - should be fairly easy)

Introduction to Marketing - 301 (3 credits - difficulty will probably depend on the professor)

business forum - 300 (2 credits - easy class)

Than theres this other class that like 1 credits and transfer students must take it. ( 1 credit)

Theater or Dance Appreciation (3 credits - I’m expecting this class to be a gpa booster)

Total: 18 Credits

I could probably take out a class, but that would probably be dance appreciation but i dont want to as it is probably going to be the only class to help my gpa. And I honestly don’t know why rutgers makes accounting majors take a 400 level class in their first semester of junior. If I had a choice I would try to postpone it.

actually now that i look at it this way, i’m taking 7 different classes lol.

So i just found out from a advisor at rutgers that my eng101 class wont count even though i had an A- because I took it while i was attending high school. So I only receive elective credit for it. But they told me to wait until the credit evaluation that comes out next month. I think I just got RU SCREWED.

That’s weird because I took my biology credits in high school and the credits transferred over. The grades don’t but the credits definitely did.

Thanks for the the feedback smileasec. You don’t think that I would have a problem with a space availability basis do you?

I took two English classes, one called Intro to College Writing, and another called called College Writing. Will those transfer and satisfy the English requirement?

I also took an Intro to Computer Science course, but they teach C++ in my school, and Rutgers teaches Java in their intro course. I’m not sure what’ll happen with that lol, what do you guys think?

Anonymous69: Well if it was past the deadline, Rutgers still does rolling admissions. I know many people who have applied after the deadline and still have gotten in. Rutgers Newark isn’t hard to get into, so as long as you have a 3.0+, you should be pretty confident in getting in.
Madbroke: It depends. Was it compared to classes such as English 101 and 102? If so, then they should transfer over. As for your computer science course I am not sure, but I don’t see as to why it shouldn’t transfer. This website may help if you still haven’t checked it out:
