Fall 2013 USC DECISIONS STATS ONLY THREAD Congratulations!

**Decision: Accepted **

Date applied: November 20

Date decision postmarked/received: January 23, January 26

Accepted at which school/major at USC: Viterbi, Undeclared Engineering

Stats:[ul]
[] SAT Total: 2300 M:800, CR: 750, WR: 750,
[] ACT: 34
[] SAT Subject Tests: Physics - 700, Literature - 710, Math II - 800
[] GPA-UW/W: 4.00/4.88
[] Rank: my school doesn’t rank, but I’m basically 1/57
[]AP/IB classes: Calc AB - 5, English Lang./Comp - 5, US History - 4, this year: Calc BC, US Government, English Lit./Comp.
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: Common App one was different and my English teacher liked it. My Viterbi paragraphs were kinda generic but still good, I think.
[] Teacher Recs: I read one of three, and it was pretty good. The other two were from teachers who respect me so they were probably good too.
[] Counselor Rec: She loves me. The school is small so we all get to know her well. It was great, I’m sure
[] EC highlights: NHS, student government for 2 years, Head Sound/Media Teachnician for the school, Varsity Football Captain for 2 years, School Worship Band Leader for 4 years, Vacation Bible School worker/band member during summer for 2 years [/ul]
Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: Arizona
[] School Type: Small private (~300 students)
[] Ethnicity: Hispanic (I consider myself white, but I’m really 1/2 so that’s what I put)
[] Gender: M[/ul]Other Factors, hook?: AP Scholar, NMSF (soon-to-be NMF), National Hispanic Recognition Program Scholar, I’m Hispanic…?

General Comments, scholarship chances, status info, going to USC…?: My acceptance package said nothing about a scholarship invite, which from my understanding means I’m only getting a Dean’s. Which bites, because I basically needed a Trustee to afford USC, so I was at least hoping for a Presidential invite so I could bump it up  I guess maybe my “extra-curriculars” were too school-oriented…we’ll see what I get in Financial Aid…

**Decision: Accepted **

Date applied: 12/01/12

Date decision postmarked/received: 1/26/13

Date applied: 12/1/13

Date decision postmarked/received: 1/26/13

Accepted at which school/major at USC: Viterbi School of Engineering/Aerospace Engineering

Stats:[ul]
[] SAT Total: 2080 M: 660, CR: 740, WR: 680 (one sitting)
[] ACT: 29

[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: Very good, better than my MIT ones because I had more room to write
[] Teacher Recs: Fantastic, they got me into MIT, so yeah.
[] Counselor Rec: Same as above. I can talk with her about anything.
[] EC highlights: President of Mu Alpha Theta, Treasurer (one of the founders) of TSA, Avid Soccer and Track & Field Runner[/ul]
Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: Alabama
[] School Type: Public, Somewhat Competitive
[] Ethnicity: African-American
[] Gender: Male[/ul]Other Factors, hook?: URM, but I don’t think that’s what got me in. Have a family situation as well. **My essays are what got me in early. **

General Comments, scholarship chances, status info, going to USC…?: Been accepted into MIT, I had a good feeling about getting to USC. If I didn’t get into MIT, I had already fallen in love with USC as a backup. USC will have to offer a lot of Financial Aid if they want me to choose them over MIT. I think I will be awarded the Dean’s Scholarship to USC as well.

**Decision: Accepted **

Date applied: By 12/1

Date decision postmarked/received: 1/26 (Online notification pm 1/23, appeared 1/26)

Subjective:
Essays: I really liked my common app essay and I put effort into my supplements too.
Teacher Recs: Awesome
Counselor Rec: Amazing
EC highlights: Woodwind Sergeant, Saxophone Captain, 4 years of band, Key Club Treasurer & Historian, NHS Vice President, Youth In Government VP & Historian & Charter Member, Choir, Humane Society Volunteer, Spanish National Honor Society. (I had additional service involvement that I didn’t list but was mentioned in my letters of rec).

Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: Central east coast of Florida
[] School Type: Public
[] Ethnicity: White
[] Gender: Female [/ul]
Other Factors, hook?: National Merit Semifinalist, AP Scholar, Nominated for Pathfinder for Academic Excellence, Campus Visit last spring?

General Comments, scholarship chances, status info, going to USC…?: I’m so excited! I haven’t gotten anything as far as scholarship offers but hopefully I’ll get NMF and the Presidential Scholarship. I also will probably have a low to none EFC so I’m really hoping to get either additional scholarships or a huge financial aid package. I’m waiting to hear from Stanford and I’ve been accepted at UCF where I could basically go for free because of prepaid and florida grants. USC is my number one choice but it will all come down to affordability.

**Decision: Accepted **

Date applied: 12/1/12

Date decision postmarked/received: 1/26/12

Accepted at which school/major at USC: Viterbi/Chemical Engineering

Stats:[ul]
[] SAT Total: 2270 M: 800, CR: 760, WR: 710,
[] ACT: N/A
[] SAT Subject Tests: MathII: 800, US History: 800, Chemistry: 800
[] GPA-UW/W: About 3.9 UW
[] Rank: School Doesn’t Rank
[]AP/IB classes: Calc AB, Calc BC, Statistics, US History, Physics C Mechanics, Physics C E&M, Biology, Chemistry: all 5s
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: My common app was really good. My AP Lit teacher loved it. I think my supplement essay was pretty good
[] Teacher Recs: One of them should have been really good since it was a teacher I had 5 classes with, the other should have been pretty good but not spectacular.
[] Counselor Rec: He loves me, so it should have been really good
[] EC highlights: I have a lot of awards in quizbowl, the biggest is that I won the national history bowl. I also sort of run the quizbowl club by myself since the teacher who used to run it quit. I also have some awards in Robotics, Math League, Chemistry etc.[/ul]
Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: Delaware
[] School Type: Charter/ Top 50 in the country
[] Ethnicity: Asian-Indian
[] Gender: Male[/ul]Other Factors, hook?: I think my application really portrayed my curiosity and multicultural"ness" which would give me a unique thing to give to USC. I also showed leadership by running a club and have an overall well roundedness through my extracurriculars. Plus awards like AP National Scholar, National Merit Semifinalist, and while I didn’t know it when I applied, presidential scholar nominee helped. Also first gen college.

General Comments, scholarship chances, status info, going to USC…?: I don’t remember seeing any scholarship things in my admit packet so I’m guessing I will only get the national merit award. Though I doubt I will be attending and the only reason I applied was because I made a promise to a friend who went to USC that I would at least apply. USC doesn’t exactly have a great ChemE program at least from what I have heard but I’ll probably visit it and give it a chance before I make a final decision.

**Decision: Accepted **

Date applied: 12/01/2012-last minute I know!

Date decision postmarked/received: Postmarked 1/23/2012, rec’d 1/25/2012

Accepted at which school/major at USC: Business Admin at Marshall!

Stats:[ul]
[] SAT Total: 2300 superscore. M: 700, CR: 800, WR: 800. NMSF.
[] ACT: did not take
[] SAT Subject Tests: Lit 740, Math II 750
[] GPA-UW/W: 3.72 UW, Washington does not weight
[] Rank: 69/494, 13.9%
[]AP/IB classes: full IB Diploma, no “easy” IB classes either. 4 HL classes. Also took AP Lit exam (5) in spring and AP Macroecon class over the summer (which is what tanked my GPA)
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]

[] Essays: AWFUL. Like so, so, so poorly written now that I look back on them. I wrote about overcoming an emotionally abusive non-romantic relationship with an adult for my common app, which might have been my saving grace, I suppose? The supplemental one was the only good essay. That I would give 9/10.
[] Teacher Recs: didn’t read but came from my business teacher who’s had me for 3 different classes. He’s great at writing letters.
[] Counselor Rec: didn’t read
[] EC highlights: don’t want to list, but a BIG position in a widely recognized organization and many DECA awards + chapter position. Sprinkling of other activities but mainly focused on those activities for all of high school.
Location/Person:[list]
[] State or Country: WA
[] School Type: Public
[] Ethnicity: Asian
[] Gender: Female[/ul]Other Factors, hook?: Honestly, I feel like the luckiest girl in the entire world. My GPA is awful and I’m not even in the top 10% at my school, weighted! 13.9%. My grades are all As except for one awful semester, that one AP macro class (C, ugh!), and consistent Bs in IB math. I think my strongly demonstrated interest, very active sister who goes to Marshall, interview with a Marshall admissions officer, and strong ECs are what gave me this wonderful opportunity. But really, IT’S OKAY IF YOU DON’T HAVE A PERFECT GPA!

General Comments, scholarship chances, status info, going to USC…?: Trustee scholarship. My USConnect status now has my admissions decision. I’m most likely going to attend USC! Fight on!

[] Essays: okay, not bad but not mind-blowing. talked about my personal growth through one of my ECs.
[] Teacher Recs: 1 should’ve been glowing, the other was probably very positive
[] Counselor Rec: great, I think! I did talk to her a bunch
[] EC highlights: science and running, acting and dancing… I will say that I tried to make opportunities when none existed previously and emphasized that on my app. quite a few leadership awards[/ul]

General Comments, scholarship chances, status info, going to USC…?:
Was accepted but wasn’t offered any scholarships from what I can tell. I wasn’t expecting to get accepted to USC, much less get accepted early with the possibility of the Dean’s Scholarship(if I read other posts correctly). I think I was accepted because I was a great fit in my prospective major. USC is definitely one of my top choices out of the schools I applied to, just have to wait and see.

OKay honestly who is saying that the Stats of the admit people are all over the place? All of you guys are about the same to me. High SAT/ACT and high GPA. You’re all the leaders of some club and you guys are amazingly talented. Obviously you were the top 2%of the pool.

Congrats guys. I’ll be posting my acceptance in April. =)
