Fall 2014 Admissions

Hey folks,

I see no one's started this thread yet. :o) Is anyone else applying for Fall 2014?

Love to hear from y'all!

Hey. I am applying as well. I’m trying to get the application done for the early action deadline. How is everything for you?

Hey bilici, I’m still scrambling to get everything done by March 1! I’m still trying to polish my essay…I hope it’ll be shinier than my shoes by the time I send it in.

Hey Guys,

Quick question…if Admissions is rolling does that mean that we have to follow any certain deadlines or just apply 6-8 weeks before the semester we wish we join.

Also - good luck to everyone! Maybe we should start a decisions threads with stats so that we can get feedback on how we can help each other get in!

Best of Luck!

Deadlines are posted on the website. If you apply Early Action, the deadline is March 1, and you’ll hear back by May 1. I think the RD deadline is June 1, so anyone who applies between March and June will hear back within 6-8 weeks.

Thanks kflames! I have been referencing this link…

I was confused because there is subheader that says “Fall & Summer,” and one that says “Spring”…

therefore I am a bit perplexed if individuals can enter in the Spring as well

Hello, please I need help, I m frustrated I’m going to be 26 this year, Ive been a pharmacy tech for almost 4 years. Now I think about a pharmacist but I feel like I’m too old, I’m almost done with my prerequisites but I’m not sure if I should go for it, I’ll be 27 by the time I get enrolled into a real pharmacy school

I’m applying for the Fall semester. I’ve been lurking these boards for quite some time. It’s going to be an interesting experience, and I look forward to going through it with everyone here. I’ll pop in on a regular basis. Just wanted to wish everyone good luck and hope we can all gain acceptance. Any military members or veterans applying? I’m currently an Active Duty Airman.

@Mart- I’m the same age as you. Age is all relative, and 26 is not old. If you have a passion for pharmaceutical, then go for it. Are you going to school right now?

Hi All,

Looking to do early action also. One question though: It has been over 10 years since I took my SAT, so I am taking the GSAE. I have not taken it though and they have not posted any NY dates yet. Does anyone know when they plan on posting those dates?

Contact the GS admissions office. I’m sure they can help you with the testing days. It’s weird that they don’t have it up on their website.

I thought it was weird too, Dz. Anyway, went by your info and they said it should be posted by the end of the day and the lady I spoke too believes that the first NY date should be next Thursday, the 30th.

Hey everyone. So excited to send in my application. However, I am having a problem that I hope some of you may guide me in the right direction. I have sent my recommenders the recommendation page a month ago and I have not heard anything from them. What should I do? I do not want to look like I am being to pushy. What would you do if you were in my shoes?

Did you discuss their participation prior to sending them the recommendation page. If they agreed to do it, I don’t think it would be rude to inquire on the status of your LOR. Especially since its been a while since you sent it to them. Just let them know that you don’t mean to be pushy, but there is a deadline that needs to be made.

I did discuss the recommendation and due date with them. I even gave them my rough draft admissions essay. Now that I am finished touching up my essay, maybe I should send them the final essay and also let them know that the deadline is approaching.

That sounds like a tactful way to give them a nudge. :p

What’s up y’all. Applying Early Action for '14 admissions.

Applying for '14 admissions as well.

Does anyone know what the acceptance rate is of GS? Also, what is everyone putting down on their application as their major?

20-25% for freshmen and 50% for transfer.

I won’t mention names here, but I was also told by an admissions officer that the admissions office is very aware of and exceptionally sensitive to the fact that a small percentage of prospective students, especially those who didn’t do well academically in high school, view GS as a backdoor into the Ivy League. (This is one reason why the freshmen acceptance rate is much lower compared to that of transfers: a lot of these 18 year old kids who take a year or two off from school haven’t demonstrated any evidence that they can succeed academically at Columbia.)

Contrary to what a lot of people have been saying on this forum, the admissions officer told me personally that the essay is the most important part of your application, followed by your academic record (GPA and SAT/GSAE) and letters of recommendation. The way she said it, it sounded like the essay was the deal breaker in many cases.
