Just got a phone call from admissions, I’m in! No package, no email, just a message saying to call them back asap, and they notified me me when I called back. They said I should receive a package sometime next week.

@h2o1991 @ebladez15 @pocketsqman @dash976 and all, congrats to you. @Katie1384 I was sort of in a similar situation and basically decided I would have accepted at another school just in case, paid the fee and ate it if I got accepted to Columbia. @Fiatlux20 It looks like everyone is getting notified differently, which seems like something no one counted on based on early posts and last year’s board, etc. I ‘would’ have gotten mail before I got an email, but they had to send USPS v. FedEx because of my address. It took a week for my package to get here, but I had called GS to confirm my acceptance based off that transfer credit email.

@GSTourGuides Are those Facebook pages? all I see is stars **** …

I registered for the June 24th APS and am very stoked. Can anyone recommend a good hotel to stay in (other than The Plaza)?

Woke up this morning to a soaking wet package from FedEx. I’m in! Must of come yesterday and I didn’t see it. It’s funny since I was out the door on the way to visit NYU. Congrats everyone!

Hey you guys, i had an interview yesterday with an admissions officer - im an international student. Any news on what this means and when i should expect my decision? i can see that you guys here have already gotten your decisions - some through email, others through phone call and others through snail mail. Can anyone give me any clue as to when i can expect my decision? my application was forwarded to GS around March 19 or so … Many congratulations to those who got in!!!

Interviews typically signify that you’re on the cusp of an acceptance.

@pmilmarines Not sure about hotels. I usually stay with family. There’s always airbnb. Should be cheaper.

philmarines - yeah, those are facebook pages. CollegeConfidential hates cited posts for some reason. :(

In terms of hotels, there are a few hostels, etc and lots of places in NYC. If you want to stay nearer campus, one less known option is Union Theological Seminary’s Landmark guest rooms. They’re at 121st and Broadway, near much of the GS UAH housing, and pretty much as close to campus as you’ll find. From what I understand they’re not super luxurious, and I’m not sure if they all have AC, but they’re convenient and I don’t think too expensive.

I think teacher’s college also offers guest rooms, but I don’t know much about them.

There’s a good hostel on Central Park West called “Jazz on the Park” or something like that. It’s walking distance-ish to CU and the rates are cheap.

@Kathy1 How did the interview go? What did they ask?

@flatlux20 i think the interview went well, he said i had a very interesting story and he knew all the details about myself and my application; the admissions officer seemed very kind and took notes about all i said. I was asked about certain things concerning myself (such as to expand a little on a couple of work and life experiences) and it semed more like they were trying to “clear up” some things and get some more details. But i was so surprised at how well the AO knew all about me! So yeah in short, all the questions were specific to me, except for the one that i was told (and can see from comments here) that everyone gets - what will you do if youre not accepted.
I think it went well - there were a few times when the AO would say things like thats a great answer and such… i just hope i explained myself well!!!

And @pocketsqman , dont get my hopes up!!! Hahah…

im so anxious for the decision…!!

Hey Guys, I got my acceptance phone call and letter yesterday! I have a TON of questions. I’m late 20’s and a California Community College Student. I have questions about navigating the complex financial aid system at GS and transfer credits. Feel free to PM me to talk more and congrats to everyone who got in.

@chenzheng Did you apply Early Action, Regular Decision or as an International Student?

@jemendez10 I am a international student studying at Occidental College and apply for EA

Once again congrats to everyone who is in and good luck to everyone who is waiting. I made a Facebook group so if you guys are interested join so we can communicate through FB.

just make sure to replace the stars with Facebook, com

I got a phone call from GS on Friday afternoon, informing me that I have been accepted. They gave me specific feedback that the key factors were my essay, my SAT scores (2120 on the 2400 scale), and my recent performance in Community College (as evidenced by one of my letters of recommendation which was submitted by my Composition 1 English professor).

They said that my acceptance package will arrive on Wednesday via FedEx.

The caller ID for the phone number was “unknown number”.
For the record, I still am not able to log in to the financial aid website. I think that the student ID number which is required is going to be in the acceptance package, and is NOT the same as my application ID number.

I submitted my application Early Decision on February 28th.

Background/stats:
I was a military brat who lived around the world, but struggled in high school.
My high school GPA was 2.67 unweighted, 244.87 weighted. My high school class rank was 244 out of 365 unweighted, 205 out of 365 weighted.
My SATs were 2120 (750 Critical Reading, 710 Math, 660 Writing).
As a kid, I was a Boy Scout, competitive Irish Dancer, and heavily involved in theater.
I enlisted in the Marine Corps after high school, and served 6 years, attaining the rank of Sergeant (E-5). I served on Embassy Duty in Saudi Arabia (during the Arab Spring protests), Honduras, and Germany. I was awarded various military awards for performance.
After separating from the Marines in December 2013, I’ve been attending Community College taking an English (Composition 1) and a Math (College Algebra) class. I have an A in both classes.

The strengths of my application were my essay, which I think is legitimately the best I’ve ever written, my recommendations, and my military record.
I am affiliated with the Marine Corps’ “Leadership Scholar Program”, which is basically an organization which tries to recruit talented Marines for top tier schools and sponsor their applications and advocate for them to the school admissions departments. I received the opportunity to do an in-person interview with the Admissions Director of GS because of the LSP.
My letters of recommendation were submitted by my current English professor, and my former supervisor from when I was on Embassy Duty in Berlin, Germany, who is a Special Agent with the US Department of State’s Bureau of Diplomatic Security.
The US Ambassador to Germany also kindly wrote a letter to the GS admissions on my behalf.

Hope that helps, good luck to those still waiting, and looking forward to meeting you all soon!

I am so happy that this waiting game is just about over for Fall early action candidates. As my earlier posts denote, I have been accepted via email and then through FedEx on April 16th. However, I still have not gotten my financial aid/scholarship award or my transfer credit evaluation. Has anyone received the credit evaluation and financial aid award yet?

@Stein614 I have received my transfer credit report and I’m very pleased with what the school has accepted. You never know what will actually count toward the major, but it’s nice to have some sort of cushion. My financial aid site “messages” pane shows some descriptions of what I believe I’ve been awarded (federal loans, federal grants, etc.) but doesn’t show any dollar amounts. I completed the planned enrollment form a few days ago and just recently the message came up. Anyone else see something similar?

I haven’t received the transfer credit report or the financial aid report. I can log in but there is nothing there.

@Beltayn Congratulations! What day did you submit your application?

As stated in my original post… February 28th.

@Beltayn , quite the life story, many congrats on getting in!!! And yep some of us are still waiting around for the final word, myself included. I dont get the signing in to the financial aid site though. When i go to studentviewer. Finaid. Columbia.edu , i can sign in by entering my columbia ID and password. Does that mean anything??? It just wasnt very clear to me how you guys would know whether you were in by checking the financial aid site…
