Fall 2014 TAG thread

Hi Folks, the only UC campuses that review TAGs in the fall are Davis, Merced, and Santa Cruz. So for everyone else you will get notification that the schools have your TAG application, but you won’t get your official admission decision and TAG review until March-May next year.

UCSC
3.4
Music

Does anyone know when the UCSC TAGS come out? I’m so anxious!

UCI
3.45
Social Ecology Major
Completed up to Calc 2, English requirement. Will have Gen chem completed and a organismal & cell biology. My major doesnt require any prerequisites!
Will have around 65 units completed.

Does anyone know what our gpa requirement has to be for tag? Is it 3.4 every semester? Or 3.4 by the end of fall/summer 2014?

Mik194 -

UCI states, your eligibility for TAG will be “a minimum GPA of 3.4 in all UC-transferable coursework by the end of the summer 2013 for fall 2014 admission and will maintain GPA of 3.4 in all UC-transferable coursework for all subsequent terms.”

UC Irvine has one of the least efficient programs in Computer Science from the UC’s. However, it’s still better than San Jose State in overall quality of education.

Well, I got the UCI email stating that they received my TAG. Too bad they don’t let you know if you got in or not until later.

*Dear X,

Thank you for your interest in UC Irvine. You have successfully submitted your online TAG form to UC
Irvine for fall 2014 admission. We now look forward to receiving your University of California
transfer application during the November 1 - 30 application period. Apply at
[Apply online | UC Admissions](Apply now | UC Admissions). When applying for admission, please
indicate your TAG submission on the UC transfer application and remember that your transfer
admission guarantee is only applicable for the primary major you indicated on your TAG form.

UC Irvine does not provide early admission evaluation or early admission decisions as part of its
TAG program. Once you apply to UC Irvine for transfer admission, we will review your TAG and notify
you of your transfer admission status by the end of April. It is important to remember that in
order to maintain your TAG eligibility, you must meet the following conditions:

• Apply for transfer admission to UC Irvine during the November 1 – 30 application period for
fall 2014 (remember to check the “UC Irvine TAG” box on the UC application);

• Complete the second UC-transferable English course with a grade of C or better by the end
of spring 2014;

• Complete 60 semester/90 quarter UC-transferable units by the end of spring 2014;

• Complete all required coursework with the minimum GPA, including course prerequisites, for
your chosen major by the end of spring 2014 (view major preparation requirements at
www.admissions.uci.edu/resources/transfer_selection.html);

• Maintain an overall minimum 3.4 GPA in all UC-transferable course work by the end of fall
2013 and maintain a minimum overall 3.4 GPA through the end of spring 2014;

• Complete the Academic Update Request in January 2014 where you will record and submit
all fall term grades and any spring term course changes;

• Complete all other minimum UC transfer admission requirements.

Students who do not meet UC Irvine’s TAG criteria may still be competitive for admission to UC
Irvine as a general transfer applicant. If, for any reason, you are unable to meet the conditions of
the TAG, an offer of admission will depend on your completion of transfer admission requirements and
selectivity in the applicant pool.

Thank you for submitting your TAG form. UC Irvine has much to offer you, and we look forward to your
becoming a part of our vibrant campus community.

Good luck to everyone else that TAG’d to other schools.

I got the same response as smltk1505h for UCI’s TAG.

Got the response from UCI too. So our overall GPA has to be 3.4 right? Or just the semester GPA has to be 3.4? The wording throws me off sometimes.

Overall GPA

Another UCI TAGger confirming the same response.

TAG: UCI (got an email today with the same response that everybody has)
Major: ChemE
GPA: 3.5 :/

UCSB for Math, Safety School. GPA: 4.0.

I got notified by UC San Diego today :P

Do everyone with the required GPA get accepted? or they only accept some?

I feel like “Congratulations Future Highlander” and "Please note UC Riverside will review your TAG application and notify you of your transfer admission decision in May. " shouldn’t be in the same letter

I got the same message from ucr…I agree that the wording is a little confusing…but it is more encouraging than other uc tag replies…so I will take it

@OCNATIVE:
“UC Irvine has one of the least efficient programs in Computer Science from the UC’s. However, it’s still better than San Jose State in overall quality of education.”

have u checked PayScale though?! it’s an interesting link:
[Best Schools for Computer Science - 2013 - 2014 College Salary Report](http://www.payscale.com/college-salary-report-2014/best-schools-by-major/computer-science)
I assume if the pay is high, then the eduction is in a high lever…

those stats are not useful. mid career your bachelor’s is dwarfed by your actual experience, and beginning career seems to be all over the place with a trend that if you’re already by the sillicon valley your pay is higher (Berkeley and Stanford)

i was under the impression that comp sci had its own department at uci though, which I thought would imply it’d be quite good. no idea though

smartwhenihaveto - It’s good but not amazing compared to the other UC’s.

Got the same message from UCR. They wouldn’t give this message to those who didn’t qualify for TAG right?
