Fall 2014 TAG thread

Tag Accepted, UCSC Computer Science: Computer Game Design.
GPA 3.97
Highlights: OEF Marine Corps Veteran, Phi Theta Kappa Honors Society Member.

Good luck to all of you!

Congratulations! Your admission to UC Santa Cruz for fall 2014 through the Transfer Admission
Guarantee (TAG) Program is conditionally approved.

Remember that you must submit the UC undergraduate application no later than November 30, 2013 for
fall 2014. If you make any changes to the course work you originally listed on your TAG application, be
sure to include them on your UC application. In addition, beginning in mid January, you will be
required to update your course information via the online UC Application Update. Changes to your course
work will only be reviewed when our campus evaluates your fall 2014 UC application for admission.

All in-progress and planned course work must be completed with grades of ‘C’ (2.0) or better.

Your approved TAG includes a guarantee of your proposed major, provided all courses listed as in-progress
and planned are completed as indicated on your TAG application. Changes to your course schedule will
void your TAG agreement.

For more information on course preparation and selection criteria for your intended major, refer to the
majors and courses information at http://admissons.ucsc.edu/discover/majors</a>.

We hope you will join UCSC’s incoming transfer students for fall 2014, and don’t forget to file your UC
application no later than November 30!

Sincerely,

Lisa Overstreet
TAG Coordinator

Accepted!
Major: Biochem & Molecular Bio
GPA: 3.48

So that means your accepted right? I also go the same email.

Did UCSD even send theirs?

If got an email regarding TAG on the 7th but all it said was make sure to send in your app by Nov. 30th and check TAG box.

Hey all:

I had an issue with my classes for the upcoming semester; my college was not offering a class I planned on taking and had submitted on my tag. I contacted admissions (At UCSC), explained the situation and how I had to take it at a sister campus, and then expressed my concerns over the tag loss.

Their answer was as follows:
ANY class changes will void the tag, period. >UNLESS< the class you planned on taking was not offered at your campus and you find an equivalent (as per assist.org) class at another campus (preferably at a college in the same district) and take that instead.

If there is a change to your reported classes (you drop a class you are taking, or do not take a class you said you would take) it voids the agreement; although they may still accept you on merit it is no long guaranteed.

Thankfully i found an equivalent course at a sister campus, so I’m good; but try to avoid any class changes. It’s a contract, and they treat it as such, if you violate it, they void it.

Good Luck all!

Also: Minty; yes it means you’re in the ‘conditional’ implies the conditions of completing all listed coursework with a C (or better) or whatever conditions are listed in your email.

@rmconnors wait does that apply only to ucsc or all the UCs?? I dropped a class this fall and not taking 2 classes I planned for spring. Tagged UCI

@rmconnors is the class you plan on taking that you changed just a general ed class or a class you need for your major? because on my spring semester I just listed whatever randomly because i finished all my prerequisites for my major and general ed…

I had to change a class because there was a scheduling conflict. I tagged to UCSC and spoke with the tag lady. She said since we met the tag criteria we would be admitted anyway through regular admission. Anyone who meets the tag requirements gets in she said. If the class is not important toward your gen ed, igetc, or major she said they will look at it and you will still be guaranteed.

They should really release some sort of publication on this issue (changing certain courses after submitting the TAG) because it appears there is some conflicting information. I am working through a schedule-chang-issue-after-submitting-a-TAG situation right now and have not be told explicitly that a certain change in the courses guarantees you admission still. . . in fact, the person who reponded to be specifically stated I would “probably” be admitted through the regular admissions. . . something is up and I sent a follow-up asking very specifically if I can count on the TAG or not once I’ve changed a course that is worth the same amount of credits and would have the same end result. The words “probably” and “guarantee” have two completely different meanings to me.

I quoted the email response here:
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/uc-transfers/1579490-serious-tag-question-changing-courses-after-tag-approved-voids-tag.html</a></p>

TAG: UCSD
Major: Biology!
GPA: 3.64

Well conflicting info is annoying, but I’m going off what I heard from the lady directly.

She said if I had course changes, I would no longer be guaranteed under the TAG, but my admission would be high probable for regular admission.

When push comes down to shove, here’s the deal. The tag agreement specifically states “Changes to your course schedule will void your TAG agreement.” So considering the conflicting info, I would strongly advise doing your best not to drop any courses.

@verychinkyasian: The class I was planning on taking was neither, it was completely useless, it could be transferable for some majors, but I cant use it as an elective or major class, I have to take a certain quantity of units per semester to qualify for certain benefits I’m entitled to, so I took it.

@jn26083: I can’t speak for all UC’s I only spoke to UCSC.

Everyone who is worried about dropping classes that don’t matter: It doesn’t matter. If it’s not for your major and/or is a gen ed class that you DON’T need, they will disregard it and still accept your tag. I talked to the UCI representative and she said that if it’s not for your major etc, then it won’t affect anything.

Just to make sure, Do I make the class I dropped a W on the uc application by nov 30 or leave it as in progress then update it in January when UCI sends out the fall grades update form?

Put it as W before you submit the application

So, after inquiring about the specifics of how changing a course once the TAG has been approved affect the TAG, the admissions rep emailed me back with:

Okay, right, that’s what we understand to be technically true . . .

So, the TAG is void, but they still honor it? Why void it in the first place then?

Wait, what? So I could have not even filed a TAG, just known that I met the TAG criteria by the time of my regular UC App (which I obviously would have since I have an approved TAG) and still be guaranteed admission? Why did I submit a TAG then?

Anyway, bottom line is that it appears any course changes do (technically, according to the TAG agreement we signed) void the TAG, but the UC disregards that fact anyway so long as the rest of the TAG is followed through (required courses for the major completed, GPA req, unit req, and no grades below ‘C’).

Hey guys, Congrats to everyone! My TAG for UC Davis (Major: NPB) was approved, but re-reading it is leaving me scratching my head a bit.

TAG:
“Units:

You completed 73.00 semester/109.50 quarter transferable units when your UC Davis TAG was signed*.

You must complete an additional 0.00 semester/0.00 quarter units to complete the remainder of your required minimum 60 semester/90 quarter transferable units for junior status by the end of the spring 2014 term.

Grades/Courses:

You had a UC-transferable GPA of 3.31 when your UC Davis TAG was signed. You must maintain a GPA of 3.20 or higher for all UC-transferable units taken prior to transfer enrollment.”

However, re-looking at my TAG application and my current transcript I have completed 52 semester units and my current ASSIST GPA is 3.37. I have 25 units in progress/planned.

I’ve been trying to figure out where they are getting their numbers from. Who should I contact about this?

Thanks.

Hey guys, So i emailed the representative on a final say about dropping a class and if it would void the tag.
I said: I had a question about my TAG application.I took a Biology class and ended up dropping it this semester. Will that void my TAG if it wasn’t part of my major or unit/GE requirement? I know that it will not affect my general application but I just wanted to know whether my TAG would not be approved because of that.

And she replied:No, your TAG will not be voided as long as you meet all other requirements.

So, I’m pretty sure the TAG is set as long as you fulfill the other requirements.

If I have everything in my TAG EXCEPT my calculus and organic chemistry, am I automatically rejected? Do I even have a chance at all?

Major: Molecular Biology
3.4 GPA, 89 transferable credits, IGETC complete, CC for 3 years, TAG:UC Riverside.

TAG: UC San Diego
Major: Computer Science
GPA: 3.55
IGETC: Yes

@transfereee
If you dont have all your major prereqs completed then yes your TAG is void:
