Fall 2014 Transfers

Provisionally admitted yesterday :slight_smile: 3.3 economics major. I was getting really worried. I’ve been obsessively checking bronco direct since like January.

Anybody heard anything for electrical engineering? im a transfer student and a veteran. My application status is “Application Received” since January

I was provisionally admitted as an EE major. I was told on march 20th. I had around a 3.23. Not a local student either.

Has anyone heard back from the Pedagogy option?
I sent in my transcript a few weeks ago, and on my BroncoDirect it still says I need to verify my AA-T. I’ve tried calling but zero help. Anyone else having this problem?

I got admitted into the Kinesiology Exercise Science emphasis this week. My stats are as follows:
Non service area, transfer student
No AA-T, just AA’s and AS degrees unrelated to Kinesiology
Over 90 units
Completing the rest of my major prereqs (Bio and Anatomy) this semester.
GPA: 3.46

Good luck to everyone! Good things come to those who wait.

@kelseynug they’re at spring break this week so the admissions office may be a bit iffy

Good luck to everyone who haven’t heard back from Pomona yet!

Guys, im confused. Im going to be attending Community college this fall. I plan to (and really want to) transfer to CPP after CC. If i meet CPP’s transfer admission requirements, will i be guaranteed admission or only considered for admission? My major will be Business Admin. concentration in Information Systems, it is not impacted as i do not see either on their impacted majors list. Please help!

@DarkDubzs I’m doing CIS and is transferring during the fall. Even though it’s not impacted now, it might be next year or the year after for BA. Go to assist.org and look at all of the classes that are transferrable to Cal Poly Pomona’s CIS major department and complete it at your CC! Some of the classes on the list includes Accounting 1+2, Economics 1+2, Business Calculus, Statistics, Business Law, Computers 101, C++, Java, and so on. It’s not listed as a requirement but if you want to get into CPP, you better get all of those in. As for guaranteed admissions, there’s no system like the UC TAG where it’s “guaranteed”. Just complete all of your classes and get a good GPA. Also, do your IGETC too because that’s for general admissions.

EDIT: Since I don’t want to post on the other thread cuz it’s about the same thing,

a 2.0 and C is a MINIMUM to get accepted. But that doesn’t mean you will get accepted for having a 2.0. It makes you eligible but chances are, you won’t get in with a 2.0. Aim for a 3.3+ and you should be in the mid range. The higher the better. And you need 60 units by the end of spring before you transfer during the fall.

@xxcapital Would my counselor at CC make sure i finish the Golden 4 and IGETC or is that all on me? Are there any other things i need to complete or should, because i had never even heard of the IGETC, and not too familiar with the Golden 4. And those classes on Assist.org, are they suggested to help you get admitted or are they actually confirmed required by CPP? I get all the 60 units within the two years at CC right, or does it have to be in just one year, then 60 more the next year? Really sorry for all the questions, im just lost, thought i was done worrying, but then this issue came up. Please, anyone, answer as many of above questions as possible? Thanks.

Edit: Hey, what if i get an AA-T or AS-T degree at CC? Check it out: http://www.adegreewithaguarantee.com/</a></p>

@DarkDubzs If you get an AA-T or AS-T you have a better chance of getting in, but that doesn’t guarantee you’ll get into CPP.

@DarkDubzs don’t rely on anyone other than yourself. I never went to an academic counselor for help and still made it through. Look for the IGETC curriculum and articulate carefully and you should be fine. The golden four is included there as well. All of these are things you need to complete if you really want to get in.

As for assist, it’s telling you what classes transfer to cal poly Pomona from your CC.

As for units, 60 units in 2 years. Around 30 per year. On my first year, I did 38 and second now, I’m doing 31.

Lastly, AA/AS-T don’t always work. There are some who got rejected from other schools even with it. Point being, you can still be guaranteed transfer but maybe to a Lower tier CSU. It does give you a boost though.

@xxcapital Thanks. I mean, ill still have to talk to a counselor for some possible questions and make sure I’m getting the classes I want/need. Ill make sure I fulfill the IGETC and Golden 4.

For the assist.org part, so those are the only classes that will transfer credits to CPP? Can’t be right, there were only like 15 classes max on the list, maybe even 10 if I remember correctly, or is that a normal amount? Do I have to take and pass those classes to get all my credits to transfer or what exactly are they on the list for?

For AA/AS-T, I would still totally go for one instead of a regular Associates degree. I mean, why not? It gets you guaranteed admission to a CSU, granted, I know it can be any CSU, meaning it could be the best or the worst, but still, no reason to not go for an AA/AS-T degree. Also, it bumps your GPA a little, every bit will help. No reason to not go for it, right? I know it won’t guarantee me getting into my college of choice.

Please help with those few questions above? Thanks.

@DarkDubzs:

Counselors are utterly useless at community colleges…I figured that out after my first visit. I feel like they make terrible decisions for you and can totally screw you because they really don’t know what they’re doing. YOU should know what you’re doing. That’s part of being an adult. Fulfill the golden four. I didn’t do IGETC, I did the CSU thing we had…dunno if they use that anymore.

Anyways, when I transferred the classes listed on assist.org you look up are for your MAJOR. Those are major specific ones that transfer. Sometimes there isn’t an equivalent one you can take at a community college that will count and it will say that. However, when you go in for transfer orientation, there will be transfer credit reports passed out and you can resolve problems with your college representative. Don’t take classes that don’t transfer.

I didn’t do an associates. I just took all I needed to transfer. I was one class away from two or three associates, but it’s pointless to get an associates if you’re getting a bachelor’s because you don’t necessarily need an associates. We didn’t have the AA/AS-T when I was transferring, but if it gets you into at least one CSU, then okay…but if you’re that afraid of being rejected, you shouldn’t be applying to Cal Poly Pomona in the first place as its a pretty popular CSU with no guarantee of anyone being accepted. It’s easy enough to get into a really low tier CSU…all you need is a pulse. Especially your local school. My local school was CSUN…I don’t know anyone that got denied that was in the area. I was lucky enough to get in here. So, really…don’t be afraid of not getting into ANY CSU. There are pleny of CSU’s at the bottom of the 23 that will take you. It will definitely not guarantee you getting into Cal Poly Pomona, though.

@CalDud Is the IGETC required for CSU’s? I keep reading they are only for UC’s, but people here say they are for UC’s and CSU’s, so what is it for then? I have no interest or intention to go to a UC.

Does it matter if I go for an Associates at CC vs. just getting the credits needed to transfer? Any differences or possible problems there? Like why should i only go for the transfer credits needed instead of an associates, and vice versa?

I dont want to just get into any csu, i want to get into CPP. I know i will have competition, thats why i am here trying to prepare so i can get the best possibility of getting accepted. I already know i am not guaranteed into CPP or another CSU of my choice.

@DarkDubzs:

I think they can be used for both. I didn’t do IGETC when I transferred, but I am assuming things have changed. What’s wrong with UC? Too expensive? That was my reason.

I didn’t have any problems going for transfer credits instead of getting an associates. Just follow what it says on assist.org, work through the IGETC, have your golden four, and you should be set to transfer. You’ll need 60 units, I think? I came in with 90.

An associates is worthless, which is why it doesn’t matter. When I transferred in 2012 it didn’t matter because you were getting a bachelor’s degree. You don’t even list associates degrees on your resume. However, if you want to get one by all means do. I think they created an AS-T and AA for transferring because people couldn’t figure out how to transfer successfully…it’s not that hard.

Just don’t take classes that don’t transfer, but it is kind of hard to tell sometimes what transfers and doesn’t transfer. But assist.org will be your best bet finding out. I knew someone who had like 5 years worth of classes from CC and they only transferred 23 credits! He was PISSED. Me? All of mine transferred, but I was very picky about what I took. I didn’t want to retake classes that didn’t transfer. However, there are some that are not offered at your CC that you must take. If you can do as many classes as you can so you don’t have to retake them you save a ton of money. I think it’s like 2000 a class here? And I started at 26 bucks a unit in 2009 at CC.s

Last Saturday I got admitted I received the e-mail and BroncoDirect had changed to provisional admit.
Today that I went to pay the ECD my status was back to “referred to impacted major” I am so confused ! Has this happened to anybody else

I AM FREAKING OUT !!

@CalDud I’m not going to a UC because they are more expensive, but most of all, they dont even have the major i will pursue, Computer Information Systems, actually its a minor, the major is technically Business Administration, but whatever.

So there is no difference if i leave CC with an Associates or just whichever 60-90 credits needed for CSU?

Yeah, ill do my best to make sure i get as many classes that transfer, i dont see the point in taking classes that wont transfer unless they are very interesting and you have space for them while still getting all the credits you need.

I got an idea suddenly… so technically it would be harder to get an Associates in CC because you would have to work towards getting all the credits/classes and IGETC/Golden 4 for the college after CC, and also all the credits/classes needed for the Associates in CC, right?

@DarkDubzs You would need to take extra classes and perhaps delay your transfer time if you pursue an AA. If you’re getting a bachelor’s, you can just skip the AA. AA is helpful for those who really don’t want to be in school that long and still want to work with a trade. CIS is technically a major but it falls under the college of Business Administration since there’s also a suboption for a CIS minor for those who are not doing CIS as their main focus

@xxcapital
Thanks. I still havent even registered for my CC yet, i have some appointment with a counselor, i believe, in May, but i cant log into my profile right now :confused: Anyways, i still have to talk with a counselor at CC and CPP and some other colleges im considering as backups for whatever unfortunate possible reason. So, ill ask about whether its worth it or best to go for an AA/AS-T degree at CC or if i should just get the credits and classes i need for college.

Like @CalDud said, “However, there are some that are not offered at your CC that you must take.” What would happen in an event like that where i dont get all the classes i need at CC that i must take for whatever reason? Like, if the classes arent even offered at all, (not if i just cant get in becuase theyre impacted or full) does that mean i wont be able to transfer to the College that requires that class? I hope not, that would seriously suck. So yeah, how does that go?

Also, while in CC, what if i am aiming to fulfill all the requirements for multiple different CSU’s like CPP, Long Beach, Los Angeles, Chico, SLO, Fullerton, etc. (FYI, the same major/minor: Computer Information Systems.) Does that mean i have to somehow juggle and take all the different classes/credits required by the different colleges… or are they all going to be the same… or are most of them the same… oooorrrr how does that work out? What about the Golden 4 and IGETC? Are those two the same for all the CSU’s? Again, im not considering the UC system, so that will not be a factor or interference.

Lastly, about the major/minor technicality, i see that only Cal State LA and Cal State Chico offer CIS as a major in itself, not a minor. Here, you can see Chico offers CIS as a BS major, within the Computer Science department: http://catalog.csuchico.edu/viewer/14/CSCI/CINSNONEBS.html</a>
And here you can see CSULA offers CIS as a major, which is why i was planning on attending CSULA at first until i began to consider, and now aim to, CPP: <a href=“Program: Computer Information Systems, B.S. - California State University, Los Angeles - Acalog ACMS™”>Program: Computer Information Systems, B.S. - California State University, Los Angeles - Acalog ACMS™;
Every other CSU claims to offer CIS as a minor/concentration under Business Administration, and it seems true because they show much less upper division classes than the list of upper division classes shown for the CIS majors at CSULA and CSUC.

P.S. (so sorry for all the questions) If, for example, i was trying to transfer to CSULA and trying to take all the classes/credits needed to be accepted, would i only need to complete the Golden 4/IGETC and the lower division classes? The lower division courses can be seen from the link above for CSULA. Is that all i would need, and some extra classes transferable to CSULA if i dont have 60 transfer credits yet with the IGETC and LD courses?
