We're almost there, guys! <3 I know the process of applying and tediously waiting isn't exactly there yet, but we're so close... I've personally been freaking out over the fact that we're so close to applying, haha.

I will be applying for Fall of 2014 as well!
Currently hoping to TAG to Davis, and will be applying to Davis and San Diego as a Human Development major.

I am a bit nervous myself, but feel as though I am more than ready to start the next chapter of my life.

I’m looking at applying to Berkeley (TAP), Santa Cruz (TAG), Davis, Santa Barbara and UCLA (maaaaybe) for History (with a Euro/World focus).

Is human development like psychology, or is it closely related to biology? It sounds interesting; what are you looking at doing with it? (:

It’s so nerve-racking. Like, I’m reading about everyone having to do things last minute (like changes and stuff) and I hope I don’t get into a situation like that, haha. I can’t wait to start fresh again, even if it means I’m going to be leaving a safer, much more comforting community.

This is going to be pretty much your schedule for the next year:

[ol]
[]Apply for TAG September 1-30th
[]TAG approvals November 1-15th
[]Apply for UC’s November 1-30th
[]UC update mid January. This year it was on the 8th
[li]Receive acceptance/rejection emails from UC’s: March 1st through April 30th[/li][/ol]

It’s going to happen fast! It seemed like there was something to think about or do for the UC’s every other month.

I’ve spent all day researching what I have to get done lol it is turning into an addiction being on here ahah. I plan on applying to UCSD (neuroscience major). UCR (neuroscience major). UCSC (molecular and developmental biology) and UC Davis which I’m tagging for and thr one I’m really gunning for and choosing between biochemistry or neurobiology.! This last year is gonna go fast and slow at the same time -.-

Good luck, people.
I am a UCI transfer for Fall 2013 (Biz Econ).

My tip is to keep focused on your current college coursework throughout the UC application process. Don’t be a slacker. It’s tempting, but be aware that if you mess up, it won’t look good when you’re submitting final transcripts next spring, and there will be consequences.

I thought “it’s way too soon for this topic”. But then it’s less than 5 months away. I’ve been thinking about starting my essay for about that long now and I haven’t done anything. Speaking of which, I have one question about that:

I know there’s only one section for essays regardless of what majors you’re applying for. I’ll be applying for two different majors at different schools (Linguistics and CS at UCLA and Linguistics at other schools). How exactly would I handle that? Should I just write a generic essay that only addresses the Linguistics side? My first choice in major is the UCLA one so I feel like that would affect my chances there, but I feel like including CS stuff would just make other schools go “*** mate?”. Any tips on this?

Just talk about how you have CS and how you would relate that to linguistics. The other schools would see that you are broadening your horizons.

Computer science and linguistics are somewhat related (computational linguistics, both study language snyntax, etc.) so you wouldn’t be shooting yourself in the foot by any means. In fact, I’m applying to UCLA as Ling and CS as well this year, and CS for others, Good luck to us all. :)

The admission statistics for the Linguistics and CS major kinda bother me. For example, in 2012, 17 people applied and 8 were admitted with an average GPA of 3.73. However, nobody enrolled. I would love to know what happened there. Did everyone suddenly realize that it’s a bad major or something? Then in 2011, 5 people applied and only one was admitted with a GPA of 3.28.

I look forward to the 2013 numbers being released so I have more fuel for this obsession.

Good luck to all Fall 2014 Transfers!
I had a really low GPA that sometimes fell below 3.0
Now, it is back up around 3.0 but it is still very low.
I was accepted to multiple good cal states and was waitlisted to UC San Diego and Irvine. I was accepted off the waitlist the first batch!
So don’t lose hope just because you have a low GPA and waitlisted. You might get lucky just like me.

@Ramona
I’m just going to assume that people just don’t know about it. I asked one of my friends at UCLA about the major and even he didn’t seem to know it existed. Furthermore, the major has a surprisingly large amount of prereqs, so that might explain the wonky average GPAs each year, especially with the low number of applicants.
