Hi Kennebec 22 - I might be overstepping by asking this, but I am applying to Columbia as well, and since you got in I am wondering about your background and testscores? If you dont want to say thats fine, but im really in doubt as to what males a good applicant
Kennebec22 Congratulations can you give us your stats?
plsofferme can we be given your stats?
Okay, so it was an interesting week. I set up, a month or so ago, to visit a few schools on the East Coast (Brown, Pine Manor, Brandeis, Trinity and Yale.) I tried to apply for an info session on the 4th, and was told it was full.
Anyway, I ended up speaking to Lisa Mata (Who is AWESOME) and she set me up an interview with Alfred.
I visit Brown on Monday and head to Boston for my next two visits on Tuesday. After I arrive, I receive an email from Alfred, who informs me that I now have an interview…with Director of Admissions Matthew Rotstein.
I arrive in New York on Wednesday, and have my interview, which ran 20 or so minutes long. I’m then whisked away on a tour of Columbia by a current GS student, Anton. It was an awesome tour! Anton was flexible as to what we stopped and looked at, as I was the only one on the tour.
As I left, Michael told me my decision should be in my hand in the next ten days…
My stomach is in knots! I’ll let you guys know what I hear.
@MEarlBITW I feel you are probably fine… after so much effort
I hope so. I applied to 43 schools, and GS was the only one I applied early action to.
Hello! I’m applying to Columbia GS as a transfer. I’m applying to 5 schools total and it’s easily my top school.
I was wondering if anyone else took the GSAE’s? I traveled up to the campus (which is gorgeous!!) last week and took them. Does anyone know if we get the results back? I found it fairly easy but I’m still curious as to what I got.
Good luck to everyone!
Good luck to everyone applying for the Early Action Fall Admissions 2015!
Anybody interested in posting stats so we can see what we’re up against :>
Sure thing! Here’s my stats:
If accepted to GS, I’m hoping to major in Biology so that I may be able to apply my degree, as well as my 6+ years experience in the military and Pilates/yoga industry, to go to PT school.
Good luck to everyone and feel free to let me know what you think!
lexxym,
thanks for sharing. If I may ask, what did you do in the military?
Thank you for your service
Hello cbtt1111,
I was an Aegis fire-control/radar technician in the Navy for the shipboard weapons system on a guided-missile cruiser. I know it sounds super “Hollywood”, but what I literally did was fix the ship’s fire control radar, as well as operate and maintain it I went to school for 2 years in order to do this. I went on two deployments in the Arabian Gulf (on a ship, of course) in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
I feel like I’m re-living the past talking about it lol.
Lexxym,
So how are those “grueling” deployments when compared to those who actually went into Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom? Sounds like you were about as safe and sound as you can get being thousands of miles from the Taliban.
How about some modesty.
Ok, all of the above aside…
I was able to log in to the financial aid system today…
Hi cbtt1111,
I honestly think everybody in the military, whether on the ship, the recruiting offices, in the trenches, all deserve credibility. Everybody sacrificed their time to serve. I don’t think it is fair to judge a veteran from how they served. The truth of the matter is, I believe I gave my time and youth to serve. I finished what I started, it was hard, and I don’t think it is wrong for me to look back and be proud of myself for completing those 6 years. It is not just about bragging, because honestly we all have to brag in some way to get into these big-name schools. Whether it is through being deployed or for having a 4.0 GPA, grueling or not, you have every right to say it is or isn’t because it is you who did the time, not anyone else.
I don’t want this to turn into an argument, ever. It is not conducive into how we are all trying to find out each other’s stats and offer sound advice into improving each other’s chances. When it comes to applying to these super “elite” universities, quite honestly, “modesty” gets thrown out the door.
Ladies and Gentlemen…
I’m in!
@MEarlBITW Congratulations!
Yayy! Congrats @MEarlBITW!
@lexxym while you might not be the most lethal sniper in u.s. history, you certainly used your time between high school and college productively. Thank you for your service. I don’t understand why cbtt1111 felt the need to demean your commitment. In terms of your stats, you sound like a shoo-in.
Congrats @MEarlBITW!
I hear back in the next week or two
