Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected:
Where else you are applying or have already applied:
General Comments/Advice/Hindsight: So honored to have been accepted to USC, especially with a chance at the Trustee scholarship!!! Good luck to everyone else!!!

http://www.usc.edu/admission/undergraduate/docs/uscScholarships1516.pdf It says here that Dean’s scholarship winners won’t be notified until April 1, but earlier in this thread someone said even Dean’s winners would find out in this mailing cycle…anyone know which is correct?

Mentioned in another thread, if you get a package in this early round with no mention of scholarship, it implies a Deans Scholarship which is 1/4. But who knows things can change, but that is what happened in the past. You get info on the Dean’s later, maybe because it could go up or down between now an then, idk.

Applied for Financial Aid? Nope
State (if domestic applicant): CA (in-state helps I’m guessing)
Country (if international applicant): USA
School Type: Public
Ethnicity: Asian
Gender: Male
Income Bracket: 250k+ (apparently but all our money is in stocks so we have like nothing lol)
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): None

Reflection
Strengths: Scores, maybe recs, NMSF (automatically Presidential Scholarship if given Finalist… which is pretty likely), and relative depth of EC’s (not extremely deep but pretty deep)
Weaknesses: GPA LOL I GOT 9 B’S IM COOL
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: I’m in-state and had NMSF so it’s probably a lot easier for me. I’m just in a field of green on our Naviance scattergram so I knew I was getting in anyway. It’s pretty easy for Californians.
Where else you are applying or have already applied: Ivies (all reaches yes), URochester, UCSD (safety), UCLA, UCB
General Comments/Advice/Hindsight: If you’re from California and you’re in the green, USC is pretty much a safety for you. Otherwise, just do what you do - set goals, work hard, and you’ll be fine. Also it’d be really awkward if my friends from my school see this because now they know how low my GPA actually is heheh.

I know this is stats only, sorry, but had to say congrats @capitalamerica, love the attitude, well done!

@capitalamerica‌ , forgive my ignorance, but what is the reference to “green”?

@LegacyMom If your school has Naviance, past acceptances have been accumulated and recorded, able to be viewed on scattergrams. A green square indicates that that particular person of a certain GPA and SAT/ACT score was admitted. Often enough, many universities have sort of a threshold where you can see that the majority of applicants with a certain GPA and SAT were admitted. If the circle indicating where you are on the scattergram is surrounded by green squares, then it is safe to say that you would be admitted (of course, this only applies to a limited number of universities, which doesn’t include the most extremely selective such as the Ivies).

@capitalamerica‌ Haha --I doubt my son’s school has Naviance, since it is a small school and, since the only other kids from my son’s school who were admitted were his brothers (in recent history), I’m guessing I can’t rely on the “green” theory.

gentle reminder to all to keep this thread to stats only for future years

Country (if international applicant): Hong Kong, but a resident of California (I’m American)
School Type: International school (IB school)
Ethnicity: Asian
Gender: Male
Income Bracket:
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.):

Reflection
Strengths: Honestly, not too sure.
Weaknesses: Standardized test scores. Essays could’ve undergone some more revision as well.
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected:
Where else you are applying or have already applied:
General Comments/Advice/Hindsight: Honestly, I’m still at a loss at how I got accepted, particularly at how I managed to clench a spot as a Presidential Scholarship finalist. I’m not the most amazing applicant; my test scores are okay, my extracurricular activities are okay, and overall I’m just a typical Asian male applicant (not exactly at an advantage during the college admissions process). Sometimes what really needs to happen is just to take that risk and apply. You never know what’s going to happen. The college admissions process is complex and there’s no magical formula to getting admitted, whether it is USC or any other college for that matter. Just try and maybe you’ll surprise yourself with what you receive in the mail

yeah you are right. just changed it. thank you for reminding me
