What is the chance I would get accepted ? I have finished the prerequisites and taken many other philosophy classes (8 courses). There is a girl in my philosophy class who switched majors from Bio to Philosophy, therefore she has taken cal 1,2, and 3 but has only taken Symbolic logic and moreover she has a 3.40 do you think she was a better chance than me ? Also I am only taking Stats 1 (for behavioral sciences).since higher math course are unnecessary for my major. Sorry for being so neurotic. .
Any Asian Studies major here? UCLA is my dream school and am so nervous.
I actually was planning to apply poli-sci major until I messed up fall 2014 semester. ( Except UCLA, applied all other UCs as poli sci major, and I want to double major poli sci if I got in LA)
GPA is 3.6 which is bit higher than average 2014 AS major admitted students, but as I said I got 2 Cs in last fall, and heard that UCLA hates Cs. ( art and Eng2). Accepted to UCSB as poli-sci major, still waiting for LA, B, SD, I, D, but I really wanna go to UCLA.
Good luck to all of you, hopefully we can see each other in Westwood!
I havenât seen any English majors here, but I had a question!
So Iâm currently enrolled in French 2, but I completed two years of a foreign language in high school. For some reason, I donât remember putting that anywhere on my application. My CC does accept that as a part of IGETC though, so what are my chances of getting rejected because of this? I called admissions, but the person I spoke to wasnât sure.
You can send your high school transcripts to your CC to satisfy the IGETC requirement. I believe this does not go on the UC app. If you use your high school foreign language that satisfies IGETC, you need to complete 5 foreign lit in translation courses to be competitive.
If you complete French 2, providing it meets the equivalent of 3 quarters at UCLA, you need 2 foreign lit in translation courses to be competitive.
@LM1993â, Iâm also an English major. I called the English department about a month ago and they said most English majors donât have the foreign language requirement met, and that it wonât count against you if you havenât completed it prior to transferring.
However, IGETC only counts for general education and not for the departmental requirement. For the major requirement, you need to take college-level foreign language, or the foreign lit in translation classes. If you go to UCLA, youâd need to complete those classes to graduate, but not having them completed pre-transfer wonât have a negative effect on your applicationâitâs more important that you complete your literature pre-reqs.
I completed 2 years of foreign language in high school as well, and was told by my counselor that they just need a copy of your high school transcript to certify you for IGETC. At this point, all you need to have done is indicate that you will be IGETC-certified on your UC application. But you donât need to submit verification yet.
Thank you so much! Iâve been worrying myself sick over it because I feel like I otherwise have a pretty good shot at getting in and didnât want my language requirement to mess up my chances.
@Happy2Helpâ thanks for your reply! I have gotten As in both foreign literature in translation classes offered at my school, so I think I should be okay.
@apocalypso@lm1993 the English major for transfers is running close to 40% acceptance so the more of your courses completed, the more competitive youâll be. Finish language and foreign lit courses during CC so you can go straight into your upper division English courses when you transfer.
Two years of high school language fulfill IGETC. While itâs a selective major, English would most likely assume you will finish at the UC, so not to worry. Stay upbeat.
Does anyone know how bad a B grade is in a major pre-req? Itâs in Stats, which is my only B on my transcript, but since my major is the insanely competitive Comm studies, Iâm anticipating rejection even with a 3.93 gpa, 7 honors classes (some in my major), and extracurricular activities related to comm.
@LM1993, I called the undergraduate advisor for English and she told me language classes do not factor against you during admissions, it will just mean youâll have to take the classes there. If you donât take your literature prerequisites, that will count against you. No need to worry! If youâd like extra verification, the number is on their website, and theyâre very approachable.
Your GPA for comm studies is right around the average for admitted students in your major, so I think youâre still competitive. A âBâ grade in a major pre-req shouldnât be a dealbreaker, especially if you have ECs related to your major. Good luck.
