Looking forward to this Friday, even though I really shouldn’t lol
Hey guys, this is a really great thread! I’m actually not familiar with forums like this at all, but this one was super helpful as I too an anxiously awaiting the decisions (and I’m going a little stir crazy)! I really hope I get in, it would be a real shame to have worked my ass off at my CC and get a 4.0 and then be rejected simply due to having 1 less EC or something like that, I really hope thats not the case. I saw some you you guys giving your input on peoples chances and was wondering if you could chance me?
I’m a comm studies major (super competitive I know) and I have a 4.0 and completed IGETC and am graduating with an Associates degree for transfer in communication studies. I have some EC’s but nothing really out standing or in great quantities, I really just worked on my studies. I did intern though and worked a bit on some film sets etc. My essays were pretty good, I think they improved from when I applied as a senior in high school as I made them a bit more conversational and tried to let them know me as best as I could. I wasn’t “corny” or anything in the slightest. I also completed all but 1 suggested course highlighted by Assist.org.
Thanks! ![]()
Hey Guys,
I’ve been following this thread and some of the others for months and finally decided to jump in and contribute to the discussion. More specifically, I’d like to hear some honest feedback on my chances of getting into UCLA this fall. Here are my stats for consideration.
GPA: 3.64
Major: Political Science
EC: Have been active in civic affairs and politics for nine of my nineteen years in addition to publishing an ebook in HS.
Essay: Pretty solid in my opinion
Acceptances so far: SJSU, Indiana University, Ohio State, CSU Fullerton, ASU, American University.
Miscellaneous: Approved for TAG with UC Davis in September 2014.
Thanks!
edited: oops, wrong thread.
@lcj1994 I honestly think it’s almost impossible to chance communication studies majors applying to UCLA. The classes are easier in com (at least in my opinion) so the majority of people I know that applied are in the high 3.9s to 4.0. (I applied this year to comm too with a 4.0) Last year I had friends who had 4.0s and were denied. One friend had somewhere in the middle 3.9’s and got in. It’s so hard to predict.
Last night I was reading old boards and googling stats about the comm studies program and realized on a deeper level how possible it is that I won’t get in. They have to throw out some 4.0s. That’s just how it works. But we’ve done everything that we can, so in one week we’ll know! I hope you got in. I hope this wasn’t too depressing.
If we don’t get in, it’s not because we’re not great, it’s because there just aren’t enough spots. Last year 10% got in, and if the same distribution of people applied to all of the majors this year with the 3% increase, and since they aren’t allowed to accept more people than last year even though more applied, that’s 7% that gets admitted for comm. 7%.
@Cayton, just curious, but when you went through the application process, did you ever get any emails from UCLA about your application in particular (i.e., clarifying something about your academic history)? I know there are only a few days left, so we’ll all know soon, but I am curious.
Does anyone know when UCLA releases it’s financial aid packet? There was a screw up with my financial aid initially even though we filed before March 2nd and I’m worried I might not qualify now. x_x (My mom put CSLA instead of UCLA, and by the time we noticed it was March 3rd.). I fixed the error, but I don’t know if I still qualify for anything there.
@StoneTower that’s another thing that i’m going to dread waiting for if I am accepted.
@StoneTower you are fine as long as a FAFSA was submitted before March 2, if not just call and explain the mistake.
This thread has more posts bc it was started last fall. And @lindyk8 is right, we’re all pretty neurotic @-)
Thanks for checking in @Cayton !

Does anyone know when the decisions for transfers comes out for UCLA? Is it this Friday?
@apocalypso - There is another thread in UC-Transfers of a student who got an email from UCLA about missing HS info. He had listed only his last HS attended, and did not put the other HS he attended earlier.
-HT
@Sabreeng there is no set date but most likely it’ll come out this friday (17th)
does anybody know the avg gpa admitted for econ with TAP?
been constantly refreshing this page: https://www.admissions.ucla.edu/applicant/notify.htm in hopes they will update it soon lol
@apocalypso I got one in Feb. from UCLA, it was about my hs info.
Where did people hear that transfer decisions were coming out on the 17th of April?? Everywhere I’ve looked has just said a vague “late april”. The 17th would be amazing!! That’s so soon.
@glondon the 17th is just a rumored date. they were released on the 18th last year, which is making people assume that it’s the 17th this year. Also because the rumored date for regents is the 20th, which would require for decisions to be released earlier. this also leads to the 17th being the date. on top of that, many people have spoken to “sources” who have confirmed that the 17th is the date. but nothing is “official.”
@LuckyName okay gottcha. Thank you so much! Also I’ve seen a few posts about people getting emails from UCLA about hs info. I got one in mid March basically just checkin in on me… “What are you currently averaging in your math class this semester”. It totally freaked me out. Has anyone else gotten an email like that?
@glondon I think that’s a really good sign tbh… I wish I got an e-mail like that…
@glondon I have similar email but it was to verify if I still enrolled in some math classes. Just curious if your major is math-related?
