@Mike2011 I spoke with a woman in admissions yesterday who told me that TCRs are going out towards the end of this week, but I was notified of my decision on March 1st so I think it’s unlikely you’ll receive yours tomorrow. Regardless, Columbia won’t take as many credits as UC Berkeley, and I’d have to imagine that UC would be the better choice in most cases for this reason. Columbia’s tuition is ludicrously expensive, and although its reputation, job placement, etc. (I could go on for a while) certainly makes up for it, UC Berkeley is a very prestigious university as well. If you’re planning on going to graduate school, I think sticking with the UC system is a no-brainer.
If you’re wondering if there is a sort of checklist that gives you an idea of which credits transfer or not, there isn’t. What I have found from my research is that Columbia does not take any online credits, as they do not offer online courses–so if you’re someone that’s taken a fair amount of online classes, it’s all the more reason not to attend. I’ll be sure to post in this thread when I get my TCR to confirm this, but that’s what is stated on GS’s website. I also don’t think they’ll take many undergraduate business courses since they also do not have an undergrad. business school.
@vancehunyc I submitted my application by Feb 6, and most of my documents arrived by March 1st, with the exception of my HS transcript (it finally arrived March 18!). Needless to say, I was NOT expecting to get a decision before May 1.
@vancehunyc Thanks! And you’re welcome. I did NOT upload an unofficial HS transcript, but did upload unofficial college transcripts. After lurking on this forum for over a year, I have the sense that admissions decisions are dished out in no concrete fashion. When did you submit your application?
@CCDropOut32 I submitted my application on February 25th. All materials where there before March 1st except my TOEFL scores was arrived on the 14th. Wishing I could get the decision earlier so I don’t have to pay a $300 deposit to another school before May 1st.
@vancehunyc Hopefully soon! I’m hoping more admissions come through next week, maybe we will see more people posting here. Where would you be coming from?
@ivyleaguetime21@bappel83 It’s not in the acceptance packet. The acceptance packet merely contains the same documents that you can view on your application portal, just in hard copy form. Financial aid information can be found on Columbia’s financial aid portal.
You have to apply for scholarships via the new student scholarship application, so there won’t be any information regarding that until the application is reviewed. Otherwise, I’m not sure if FASFA information would show up there.
I think most are accepted without interviews–at least from what I have observed with this thread and others. I did not have an interview and was accepted. GPA and the personal statement are what the admissions committee looks closely at @mmm6291.
If your GPA is in the 3.7-4.0 range, and you wrote a solid essay, I wouldn’t worry too much. I’m not suggesting that candidates won’t otherwise be admitted, but this seems to be the category that most accepted applicants fall into.
